@TeleFootball @Carra23 Ah come on, it was always please be city so it’s not Liverpool/Arsenal/United - anyone would rather lose to a nation state than a real rival!

For many fans, 'anyone but Manchester City' has become 'anyone but Arsenal' this season. As the two clubs prepare to meet in this weekend's Carabao Cup final, @Carra23 explains why Mikel Arteta's side have their detractors 👇 telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/…

@stats_anonymous David Coote? Granted, he had some unique issues, but you think he is alone in disliking particular managers? Arteta's not exactly flavour of the month at Stockley Park.

If the previous round of Premier League fixtures felt like a turning point, how do you describe a day in which Arsenal went a further two points clear of Man City? It took the introduction of 16-year-old Max Dowman to break the deadlock at the Emirates. arsenalmusings.substack.com/p/a-star-is-bo…

@stats_anonymous It's a common theme in my writing! Could you believe VAR did not point out that Havertz was obviously caught on his ankle?

That Louis Theroux documentary: v watchable and jolting but a bit too much ‘look at the dangerous weirdos’ and not enough ‘why are there so many dangerous weirdos and what’s the path out of the dangerous weirdos’ imo.

@HLTCO use clear and obvious with linesman’s call - with a set a margin of error

My overarching view (and I appreciate it’s not universally accepted, let’s face it, nothing is on here anymore) is that the daylight rule would be superior to this. I don’t feel you should be offside by a toe or a nose, if you’re level, you’re on. That’s basically what it was before VAR and I think it would be better.
A@fightingcock_11

@HLTCO By the rules it’s offsides though. If you start allowing some because they “don’t gain an advantage” then that brings more subjectivity into it when that’s the last thing VAR needs

A moment that you already feel people will look back on, maybe in the title race, definitely in the burgeoning career of one of the game’s brightest talents Dowman offered everything Arsenal were missing… and they really, really needed it independent.co.uk/sport/football…

Why did it take so little time, Alan? Because it was never a penalty, flower.

@_CiaranMcManus @davidlynchlfc A “goal-saving opportunity” isn’t codified in the laws, but surely that’s the equivalent of DOGSO? Pulling an opponent as they’re about to clear off the line is same as professional foul as a defender. Not arguing with the decision, just pointing out gap in the law/logic

It’s impossible to “deny a goal” - for which the punishment is a red card - if the goal is actually scored (and Pawson gave the goal on the field).

Hmm. Everton scored in the phase of play after Garner shoved Rogers. It was a definite foul. So why wasn't this reviewed after they scored in the same way our 'goal' was reviewed yesterday? Presumably because the ref had made his decision & it was too far back to review? #avfc
Dale Johnson@DaleJohnsonBBC

James Garner should have been sent off in Everton's 1-0 win at Aston Villa, the Premier League's KMI Panel has said. It is the second time in a matter of weeks that Villa have lost a game where their opponents should have been reduced to 10 men. 👇 bbc.co.uk/sport/football…

@now_arsenaI @football_pb We had two massive chances at 3-1 to kill it. So it was actually within our grasp. Still in a strong position

Our most heavily loaded players should get a 10 day break soon between Brentford (a) and Spurs (a) Give Gabriel, Saliba, Saka, Timber, Rice, Zubimendi and Raya a little holiday.

The old Champions League group stage was a bit dull. The new format is too chaotic to understand what's going on. How about a compromise? nytimes.com/athletic/70062…

Why are all these ICE agents and border patrol troops wearing camouflage? In snow? America is a weird place where law enforcement officials love to cos-play being soldiers, with some alpha male shouty tactics to sound hard.
