i have some news. i came to sf 3 years ago for @_buildspace. and never left. why? because of @fdotinc. it is magical. no other way to describe it. it's what i wished i had when i was starting my journey. a place where new ideas can find their first breath and flourish. in 3 years, i watched one empty room stretch into a 42k sq ft playground for builders of all kinds. @furqanr was our first and biggest believer -- no matter what ideas we had. from projects to houses to the first season of nights and weekends to bringing a 1000 people to fort mason to sage to figuring out what's next. literally whatever. he just believes. more than anyone i know. and that is infectious. today i get to share the i'm joining the team as creative director + partner. shaping culture takes a long time and i'm excited to craft this next chapter alongside an incredible team. we'll continue to try our best to convey what its like to be here through our digital stories. but if you can, pull up and feel.

I applied to YC 10 times and failed. If you know me then you will know how important this has been for me. I grew up reading @paulg's essays. And watching startup school videos was the reason I wanted to do a startup in the first place. Although I have always had a side hustle, I could never go all in because my dad (who passed away 3 years ago) was diagnosed with cancer. So I had to go all in on my dad's health instead. And I would talk to him about our plans and ambitions and he would get really excited with me. He always encouraged us to pursue our own thing. And I know he would have been very excited for us now. This is probably the greatest time to build a startup as we go through the biggest technological shift the world has ever seen. I always remember @bchesky's words that the biggest gift you can get in life is for someone to believe in you. And I am incredibly grateful to have found a believer in @xuster and @gralston. The lesson I've learned is: just don't give up. Your main job running a startup is to never give up. Even if it takes 10 applications, just keep going. Leave a page in the history books for what is about to come from this team because @FabraixHQ is part of @ycombinator. We're just getting started.

Lots of people asked how I used Fable to edit its own launch video so I made a video about that! TLDR it wrote a lot of code & tool calls to use transcription services, ffmpeg, do colorgrading, use the figma mcp, make remotion UI and render it. I didn't touch a video editor.

Life update: I'm joining @heyclicky! I met Farza 4-yrs ago through buildspace, N&W S1. I started my startup from there, built a social app for artists to 500,000 users, raised $2.3M, built the team, and sold it a year ago. After the exit, I had no idea what was next! So I did a 10-day silent meditation retreat...I had no phone, no internet, and was doing 10-11 hours of meditation a day! After, I flew to Vietnam with my mom and sister for two weeks. Came back to SF, started cooking my meals again after 3-years of Doordash, got back in the gym, and got my health together (something that degraded during my startup). From there, I just started tinkering. I built iOS apps, random demos, playing around with different ways to interact with AI, and honestly just learning to have fun while building again. (Surprisingly hard after being a founder once!) The more I explored, the more I felt we're just really early. ChatGPT was a huge unlock, but I don't think we've seen a new wave of consumer adoption since, especially with agents. How can the power of these models really be brought to their fullest. A lot left to find. Back to the Farza arc. One day I crossed paths with him in the Marina. Turns out we'd been living 5-mins apart this whole time. Invited him for dinner, started going on a lot of walks randomly talking about life. When he started working on HeyClicky, I jumped in just to hack around and have fun. $0 a week salary. Since then, we've gotten 10M+ views across our demos. But more importantly, we've been doing a ton of customer interviews, and so many people genuinely love the product. We've got: An 11-year-old building games with his voice. A Chief of Staff delegating background tasks to HeyClicky while she focuses on real work. An indie designer using it as an orchestrator for his whole system. A 70-year-old from Yemen learning to use a laptop for the first time, with just his voice. I wasn't looking for anything...but something clicked here ;) Going all in. Let's build!

Hey Twitter. Been a while. Thanks to everyone who's reached out to check in, I haven't died, promise Just wanted to share where I've been the last 5 months. It started in November. Some personal stuff came up that meant I couldn't share what I was working on anymore and honestly sharing was the whole reason I enjoyed Twitter. The building in public, the conversations, meeting people. Without that, it kind of took the fun out of it for me. Then January came around, and the world kind of lost its mind. I was doomscrolling 5+ hours a day, cranky and angry, short with the people around me. And what really got me was that even when I wasn't on the app, I was still scrolling, just in my head. My wife mentioned Id been off lately, "what are you even doing?", and that's when it hit me: this is a vicious circle. I needed to stop. So I quit cold turkey. Decided it was basically an addiction, and it wasn't giving me anything back. 5 months in honestly it's been one of the best things I've done for myself in years. Not spending 5 hours a day on the app feels amazing. In the mornings especially, Twitter used to dictate what I'd think about all day. Whatever was trending, that's where my head went. I didn't even realize it was happening. Without it, you remember how much is actually going on in real life. You don't have to be scrolling. You can just be there, with your wife, your dog, your friends. Read a book. Read an actual news site. Sit with your own thoughts. That last part has been the biggest one. When your mind has space again, you start *thinking*. About your life. About decisions you've been putting off. I've been head-down running the company for years, always managing, always growing, and suddenly I had room to ask: am I doing what I want to be doing? That alone made the whole thing worth it. Some things that have changed: - Made some dramatic work changes - Working on side projects again - Enjoying coding for fun - Less stressed, way less reactive - My relationships with everyone are better - Been working out, eating healthier, and lost 7kg - Got married - Just happier I've opened the app a few times since. Scrolled for a bit. And honestly, it just doesn't bring me joy anymore. But I do miss things. I miss sharing what I'm building. I miss the people, the conversations, the small connections that come from posting and replying. That's the part I haven't found anywhere else. I'll come back one day, in some form. Probably something custom, a way to share what I'm working on and interact with people without seeing the feed. For now I'm just enjoying being off the grid.
