It's difficult to believe that 12 years have passed since we lost Adriana to male violence. Re-posting this beautiful tribute by @GeraldineBilst1 who captured all she was to so many. She is dearly missed on this day and always🤍 mamamia.com.au/what-happened-…

📢 New report released today This study examines investigation processes relating to histories of family violence following women’s deaths by suicide in Victoria. Women’s deaths by suicide in the context of family violence victimisation represent an important but often overlooked dimension of gender-based violence. 👉🏼 Read our report here: acuresearchbank.acu.edu.au/item/914zx/fam…

Emmy Rākete @cannibality from @AucklandUni presents their Keynote on ‘Mass incarceration as a structural crisis of capitalism: profitability, social reproduction and the prison’, discussing a triple crisis model for understanding mass incarceration to argue that it clarifies the relationship between criminal justice issues, the state, and class struggles. #ANZSOC2024

❤️SHE MATTERS: REHANA PARVIN!❤️ Australian citizen Rehana Parvin was abducted and murdered in June or July of this year and yet almost no one knows about her death here in Australia. If she was a white woman killed overseas, we'd have wall to wall coverage. But here we are. Another Australian woman killed in 2024, the disappearance and death of another woman ignored by those who should know better. Rehana - a mother of five who had business interests in Queensland's Western Downs and Ipswich - went to Bangladesh with her daughter on June 6. Shortly after, she was abducted by five people - one allegedly her husband - and reported missing by her family in July. Her body has now been found and police are treating her death as murder. Rehana is the 67th Australian woman killed this year. Her husband has since returned to Australia. He has not been charged. "My daughter earned and acquired property in Australia … two months later, the police have found her remains," her mother told media outlets. "I demand justice." REST IN POWER REHANA PARVIN! ❤️ ❤️The Memorial to Women and Children Lost to Violence: t.co/UroVD68fcd ❤️The Australian Femicide & Child Death Map: t.co/RDVGgeLKBq I document ALL unlawful deaths of women and children, regardless of perpetrator gender or relationship between the person killed and the accused. This means not every death is due to domestic and family violence. Australians are also killed by strangers, friends, colleagues, neighbours and other people known to them. A new report by @UN Special Rapporteur @UNSRVAW finds ‘women & girls in sport face widespread, overlapping and grave forms and manifestations of violence at all levels.’ The safety of women & girls in sport must be a key focus of the Australian High Performance “Win Well” strategy for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic & Paralympic Games. 👉🏼 In this @ConversationEDU article I examine the report & its relevance for Australia: theconversation.com/violence-at-al… @ausport

❤️SHE MATTERS: FRANCES CRAWFORD!❤️ Today you'll hear a lot about the sex life of her husband - I want to tell you about the life lived and lost of Frances Crawford. Frances was murdered at her home in Upper Lockyer on July 30. It was made to look like she died in a lawn mower accident. Police have now confirmed her death was no accident. Her killer has not been charged. She is the 63rd Australian woman killed this year. Frances had three daughters and was devoted to her community and her spirituality. She dedicated her life to helping others. She was a compassionate, caring, much loved, and respected psychologist in nearby Toowoomba. Frances was only 49 years old. “Frances had a loving heart and she always saw the best in others,” her grieving family said in a statement after her death. “She cared deeply about the people around her and put their needs before her own. “A wonderful wife and mother to three fantastic children, a treasured daughter, sister and niece, a loyal and valued friend, and a professional psychologist whose caring nature and years of training allowed her to look after so many others during their time of need. “Frances gave fully and freely of herself, a beautiful soul inside and out. “She was a truly special person whose passing is a tragedy and the ripples of which are only just beginning to be felt.” In a reminder to journalists, Frances was more than a clickbait headline and she deserves to be remembered as such. Milestone day - submitted my PhD upgrade! Still a LONG way to go but a year ago when I took the giant leap out of practice, I wasn’t really sure if I could get to this point. So grateful to my brilliant supervisors @KatrinHohl & @_Lizzie_Cook. Here’s to the next stage! 💪🏻
