@stefan_pledl I'm a key licensed user and liked your app, but I ended up using other apps less buggy.
Over time, Localcast has lost its luster, features working perfectly no longer do.
Fast-forwarding, skipping ahead, photo slideshows, unreliable device detection...
May need better maintenance

LocalCast has a built-in browser that detects videos on any webpage and lets you cast them directly to your TV. No extra steps, no workarounds.
Free on Android and iOS. localcast.app

I'm @stefan_pledl, developer of LocalCast. I've been building a casting app that actually works, respects users, and doesn't shove 47 ads down your throat — and so have others like Web Video Cast, BubbleUPnP, Castto, and Video & TV Cast.
It's hard to compete against networks with 1.8 billion installs running Play Store manipulation at industrial scale — especially when they're running coordinated ad campaigns inside your own app.

@GooglePlay @Android — these are documented policy violations:
- Multiple accounts per entity (Google Play Developer Policy 8.5)
- App identity manipulation (chatbot renamed to casting app)
- Developer name mismatching privacy policy / contact info
- Deceptive subscription practices
I have the full evidence. The package IDs, the shell companies, the privacy policy links. DM is open.

I noticed the ads inside my own casting app were all for competing casting apps — and they all looked suspiciously similar. So I investigated.
What I found: a handful of developer networks in Vietnam & Pakistan running 280+ apps across dozens of fake developer accounts, racking up 1.8 BILLION installs.
Here's how they do it. 🧵

LocalCast now works with any device with a web browser
I just shipped a feature I've been working on for LocalCast — a web receiver that lets you cast to literally any device with a web browser.
How it works:
1. Open lcast.cc on your TV's browser (PS5, Xbox, Smart TV, laptop, whatever)
2. Enter the short pairing code shown in the app
3. Done — cast videos, music, photos, even PDFs from your phone
It works over your local network, no account needed, no cloud involved. The receiver connects directly to the media server running on your phone.
Why I built this:
Chromecast and AirPlay cover most TVs, but there are a lot of devices that don't support either — PS5, Xbox, older Smart TVs, hotel TVs, a friend's PC. If it has a browser, it now works with LocalCast.
Features:
- Video playback with subtitles (including custom font, color, and background)
- Queue support
- Works over HTTPS (no mixed content issues)
- Supports the same media sources as regular casting (local files, DLNA, Plex, web videos)
The URL is short on purpose — easy to type on a PS5 controller or TV remote: lcast.cc
Would love to hear if anyone finds this useful or runs into issues. Available in the latest update on Google Play and the App Store.
