At Pony we roast each other's work all the time. It's uncomfortable at first. But that discomfort is the point. When you can tell someone their idea is half-baked and they laugh and fix it ... that's real trust. You can't fake that. You can't manufacture it with team offsites or feedback frameworks either. The distance between polished BS and genuinely great work is usually one honest conversation. Say the thing you're thinking in the meeting. Not after it. It feels weird for a while. @smartstreamhq runs inside 80% of the world's top banks. Most people have never heard of them. When your software is this embedded in global finance, invisibility feels normal. But markets move. AI is reshaping fintech. And "trusted but invisible" starts to look like "trusted but irrelevant." To be honest the hardest part isn't the design, it's finding the balance - staying credible to the banks who've trusted you for decades, while becoming relevant to the ones who haven't heard of you yet. At some point, every market leader has to explain itself again. Better to do it on your own terms.

How to build a brand identity that actually feels connected: 1. Start with the core story - what's the one thing this brand needs to communicate. 2. Find the key visual that carries that story. one strong idea 3. Integrate it somewhere obvious first - logo, hero pattern, whatever feels right 4. Perfect that one thing before moving on - you must absolutely love it. It’s the big lever everything else will step on 5. Now let it bleed into everything else without being heavy - type, colour, icons, illustrations, and etc 6. You should end up with a system where every element traces back to that same original idea 7. Bring it to life on the site expressively - this is where it gets personality 8. Pull it back for product/ui. same principles, quieter, optimised for function 9. Done - every detail has a reason. that's what intentionality actually looks like.

I spent the last few days training an AI agent on how we approach brand strategy at @ponythestudio. The idea was simple - how much of what we do can actually be disrupted?
