They'll be LUCKY to have a single mine triggered.
They'll need to deploy about a thousand to effectively mine a strait as wide as Hormuz.

The peripheral velocity of the blades must be of the order of the mean velocity of the gas molecules to be pumped. For N2 it is 480 m/s at 20C.
If you back-calculate the RPM required to get to that..

In high vacuum, the mean free path of an air molecule is so large that normal flow breaks down and starts to behave like an infinite pinball machine... so you need a turbomolecular pump!

@steger_daniel @Jordan_W_Taylor No. Turbo pumps need a mechanical pump of some kind to make a rough vacuum on its high-pressure side. Can’t work against atmospheric pressure, backflow would win.
