I miss the coding flow state. There's a flow state working agents sometimes but it's not the same thing.

sometimes you get an idea and it's radically disruptive so you sit on it but it's like an infection that spreads and you'll inevitably pull the trigger but in the meantime you drag things out for longer than it should so i get why they moved fast on the bun rust thing

@unclebobmartin @ThePrimeagen “Masively overloaded tests” 😳 Tests shall be more important than the tested code itself. They should be written and read as a specification. Unless we embrace formal verification, it’s the best we have.

I don’t engage with the syntax. Lately I’ve been having the agents use languages that I don’t know well. That helps me disengage from the syntax. On the other hand I engage strongly with the structure. Massively overloaded tests. Small discrete functions. Well partitioned modules. Tightly controlled dependencies. I watch all that like a hawk. Syntax doesn’t matter to me. Structure does.

It's weird how much time I spend trying to get agents to write code like me Maybe I should just write code...

It’s not the last evolution step, hopefully. I personally hope someone smart will appear and say “Hey, people, you all are doing it wrong, all languages are jokes, not principiaĺy different from AI slop. Software should be mathematically sound, deterministic, formally verified, and append-only. Then all software will be rewritten from scratch and written once for all. Then the software developer job will be replaced with entirelly new kind of job, much less insane.

I get why some people are unhappy with Anthropic's latest changes. But it is Anthropic's service to charge as they see fit. They don't owe us anything. Should encourage some competition. Personally I wouldn't mind going back to pre-AI times. This new AI world is a dystopia.

@burkeholland @github Please add something that would allow running a prompt against different models/reasoning, so it’s possible to compare responses easily. The model/reasoning switch should be remembered per session. Thank you

The @GitHub Copilot CLI lets you /fork conversations into different sessions you can toggle between. I've been using this lately to go down different roads with the same plan before I commit to one of them.

It’s 2018 and your coworker just sent you a 400 line pull request. You get a cup of coffee and sit down to review it. It’s beautiful. Elegant micro-refactors. Crispy method names. You catch a few things, but that’s ok. It’s part of the dance. They didn’t consider extensibility on part of their API. Here’s a comment buddy. They respond in an hour saying they think we should do one piece differently than your comment. Hey let’s jump into a room and figure it out. We can’t just agree to disagree, this code is too important. The PR merges and goes to prod. You feel a shared sense of ownership and accomplishment. That night you go to sleep and dream of that code. You can still see the shapes of it on the backs of your eyelids, your IDE syntax highlighting sparking neurons in your reptile brain. You go to work the next day ready to go. You understand the system. N is your foundation. Time to build n+1.
