In OOU, students had to hit the streets after armed robbers invaded hostels at midnight, shooting, stealing phones and gadgets, injuring students, and even carjacking a vehicle. At EKSU, students have been facing repeated security issues incessant gunmen attacks, with one student murdered behind Lakers' hostel earlier this month. When students protested, they were met with tear gas. In OAU, students are currently dealing with unrest over transportation issues, with some having to trek long distances to go home after being evicted from school hostels for protesting.. In the space of one week, they mourned two students, one who lost his life during an exam due to cardiac arrest and another who committed suicide due to depression. A student was recently kidnapped on the way to IT and had to pay ransom before being released. At Unilorin, students queue every single day , yet many cannot even speak out. At Covenant University, a student’s life was lost due to delayed emergency response. The cost of studying has skyrocketed, making basic survival harder for students. Academic pressure as well as financial pressure, exploitation from lecturers, and unfair academic conditions. Life in school is becoming more difficult by the day, and many students are struggling to afford basic amenities. In our quest for a degree, may we not be sent back home unalived to our parents 🙏

CLARIFICATION ON THE ARREST OF JUSTICE MARK CHIDIEBERE (JUSTICE CRACK) The attention of the Nigerian Army was drawn to the complaint made by some soldiers regarding their feeding and other matters relating to their welfare as posted on social media by a blogger/social media influencer, Justice Mark Chidiebere (Justice Crack). While the matter is being investigated for breach of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy and an attempt to misinform the public, preliminary report reveals that the soldiers discussed wide range of issues with Justice Chidiebere who seemed to be inciting soldiers to create discontent within the system. An example was a chat bothering on subversion which Chidiebere had with the soldiers. It is important to state that a situation where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion has far-reaching implications on discipline and national security. Hence, Justice Chidiebere was picked by the Nigerian Army alongside the soldiers for investigation. While the soldiers remain in own custody, Chidiebere has been handed over to the relevant civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution. The Nigerian Army remains committed to the rule of law and will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served. Since the conclusion of the competition, participants are yet to receive their allowances from the school board. In addition, medalists have not been presented with their medals. Despite repeated follow-ups, students have been subjected to prolonged and, at times, unnecessary bureaucratic procedures, including multiple requests for documentation, with no clear resolution in sight.
