🚨 NEW: Top performing secondary schools are effectively shutting out disadvantaged pupils with special educational needs. Our new polling suggests this is often a deliberate strategy to limit the numbers of these pupils coming through their school gates 🧵⤵️

We are delighted to share the highlights from the National Careers Week 2026 Conference! 🎥 This year marked our first fully in person conference since the pandemic and it did not disappoint. Bringing together educators, employers, career leaders and young people, the day was filled with energy, inspiration, and collaboration. The passion in the room was tangible, reminding us why National Careers Week exists: to empower, engage and inspire. The conference offered a variety of sessions, workshops, and interactive discussions designed to: Inspire ambition and aspiration Build confidence and self-awareness Support employability skills and work experience Showcase the range of pathways and solutions available It was incredible to see schools, colleges, and employers coming together, collaborating and learning from one another. The conference truly highlighted how shared expertise and enthusiasm can make a real difference in guiding young people toward meaningful work experience. We are proud to be part of this journey and excited to continue supporting young people, educators, and employers across the UK. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and expertise it’s your dedication that makes events like this possible. Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and expertise this week as well as our partners at @NatWestGroup @Morrisby @educationgovuk @CareerEnt @HealthCareersUK @BBC_Teach The collective effort truly demonstrates the impact we can make when we work together. #NCW2026 #NationalCareersWeek #CareersEducation #YouthOpportunity #FutureSkills #STEM #CareersConference

Great principals do a thousand things in a given week. They solve problems, support teachers, calm worried parents, guide students, analyze data, and keep a school moving forward. It’s complex work. But when you step back and look closely, the most effective principals tend to get a few foundational things consistently right. Here are ten of the habits that set great principals apart: 1. They recognize the value of every adult in the building. From teachers to custodians to office staff, great principals know that schools succeed because of people. They notice the work others do, and they make a point to say thank you often. 2. They support their teachers—especially when it matters most. Whether the challenge is a difficult student, a frustrated parent, or a tense situation with a colleague, great principals stand beside their teachers. They trust them. They believe in them. And their staff knows they have someone in their corner. 3. They lead from the halls, not just the office. Great principals understand that leadership happens where learning happens. You’ll find them in classrooms, hallways, the lunchroom, the bus line, and at carpool—engaging with students and connecting with staff. 4. They involve others in decisions. Great principals know they don’t have all the answers—and they don’t try to. They seek input, invite perspectives, and empower others to help shape the direction of the school. 5. They stay focused on learning. Student achievement is always on their radar. They spend time in classrooms, encourage strategic instruction, and ensure assessments are meaningful. Most importantly, they help teachers use data to better meet the needs of their students. 6. They cultivate collaboration. Great principals know that teaching can’t be a solo sport. They intentionally create structures and expectations that help teachers learn from one another and grow together. 7. They refuse to settle for the status quo. The best principals hold high expectations—for themselves and for everyone in the building. They articulate a compelling vision and challenge their school community to keep getting better. 8. They protect staff morale. Great principals know that culture matters. They work to create an environment where teachers feel respected, supported, and proud to work. 9. They bring positive energy every day. Schools are emotional places, and leadership energy is contagious. Great principals understand that positivity isn’t optional—it’s essential. 10. They always keep students at the center. Every decision, every conversation, every initiative ultimately comes back to one question: What’s best for kids? Great principals build relationships with students and make sure their well-being and success drive the work of the school. None of these practices require perfection. But when principals commit to these habits day after day, they create schools where teachers feel supported, students feel valued, and learning thrives. Cheers, Danny

It was a real privilege for our Principal, Mr Logan to join colleagues from the Regional Inclusive Leaders Network for Day 4 at the Carr Manor Community Hub an outstanding school in all areas last Friday. This insightful session was hosted by the Leeds Learning Alliance, a Department for Education-funded programme. A huge shoutout to the brilliant facilitators Tom Shaw, Alice Barker, and Katy McLoughlin who created such a thoughtful and reflective space. It was a truly moving day, grounded in honest storytelling and powerful examples from our work with young people, families, and communities. Sharing openly with fellow leaders about potential collaborative solutions and sharing best practice. We were also fortunate to gain deep insights on belonging, with contributions from Mary Meredith Hull City Council and research from the University of Oxford, including their Excluded Lives publication. At Healing Academy, we believe days like this matter. They remind us that inclusion isn’t just something we talk about; it’s something we must actively do. We are excited to continue these conversations, including a visit to The Marvell College in Hull this week. #Inclusion #Belonging #EducationLeadership #EquityInEducation #Collaboration #HealingAcademy

My oldest dearest friend died today at 60 after 18 months fighting off cancer. He has a beautiful family. My heart goes out to them. We met aged 12… bonded over music and shared experience of bereavement .. his mum, my dad. We were in bands.. at school, in Manchester and recently regrouped in our 60s to make some epic tunes. Jules’ star burned brightly…an extraordinary man with a beautiful soul. We’re all devastated.. Jules.. i love you so much., we’ll miss you. You were magnificent. “Everything is theoretically impossible, until it is done.” – Robert A. Heinlein Reflecting on National Careers Week last week, we are incredibly proud of how Healing Academy continues to lead the way. For us, #NCW2026 isn't just a date on the calendar it is a vital part of our Careers Strategy to support our students and the wider community. Last week we led on the National Careers Week National Conference focusing on work experiences at STEM Learning Centre in York. It was great seeing the ambition of students like former pupil Jaya, the why behind our mission has never been clearer. Our Strategic Focus • Empowering positive change: Providing the high-quality CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice, and Guidance) students need to own their future. • System Leadership: Developing careers that supports other schools within our community. • Collaboration: Working alongside the formidable partners like Sewell Group, NatWest, NHS, and the DfE to bridge the gap between classroom and career. #NationalCareersWeek #CareersStrategy #HealingAcademy #HarbourLearningTrust #STEM
