Hey, I’m Stephen 👋 I build mobile apps with Flutter/Dart and backends with Go. I build apps in public, share what I’m learning, and how I learn faster with AI in a teacher-student style. If you’re into building, shipping, and getting better fast… follow along.

I know of a company that’ll give you accommodation with 24 hours power supply and internet in Lagos island with a pay between 200k-400k. Will you take it?

The first time I heard this quote by Steve Jobs: “You can’t connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backward.” I understood it but I couldn’t really bring it home - apply it to myself. Because at that time I was just starting out and I couldn’t see any dots to connect looking backwards. But now, I can. Not because I have it figured out but because the things I didn’t consider to be dots are now playing their parts now. It’s connecting. I learnt graphic design in 2020 and when I stopped, I thought that was it but in 2024, 2025. I’m still applying some of the design knowledge into frontend development. Connecting the dots doesn’t mean the dots have to align. It’ll just connect somehow and make sense. It doesn’t even have to be in line with what you’re currently doing and maybe in the next 3 years, you’ll need it and it’ll connect. Now, look backwards and try looking at the things you did and thought you wouldn’t probably need it but it’s playing its part now. It’s also important to note that not everything will be dots or connected. So don’t force it. What will connect, definitely will.

Flutter has such incredible momentum right now. 🎯 Just to name a few things that are happening: 1️⃣ Toyota is building a fully fledged 3D game engine in Dart. 2️⃣ Xiaomi is rewriting all its core system apps in Flutter. 3️⃣ India's largest bank, SBI YONO, is moving its app to Flutter.

~3 months ago my app had zero real users. Today it's at ~$400/mo — no paid ads. The code didn't change. The features didn't change. The marketing did. Here's the entire playbook 🧵 (1/9)

I took this photo of Shola and Ezra before Paystack announced their first round.
Years later, Stripe acquired Paystack for over $200M. I took this photo of Tosin before Moniepoint raised a single dollar. Today, they’ve raised over $200M and are valued at more than $1B. I took this photo of Madam Funke Opeke before the big MainOne exit.
Equinix acquired MainOne for $320M. I took this photo of GB on his first day as CEO of Flutterwave.
Today, Flutterwave has raised over $470M and is valued at $3B. Recently, I saw a tweet that said: “Most successful founders have an unfair advantage. They all know each other.” Here’s what people don’t see. Many of us met when there was no money.
No valuations.
No press.
No hype. We were hustling through Lagos traffic to hackathons and tech events.
Showing up at meetups with more ambition than resources.
Building relationships without calculating ROI. We weren’t thinking about leverage.
We were building community. Years later, those same relationships became partnerships, investments, boards, and Million-dollar outcomes. Yes, privilege exists.
But long before the headlines, there was proximity. There was consistency. There was shared struggle. If you’re early in your journey, don’t underestimate the people around you today. The founder you’re brainstorming with.
The engineer you’re building side projects with.
The operator grinding quietly. You don’t know who they’ll become. And more importantly you don’t know who you’ll become together. Build real relationships.
Not just transactions. That’s the long game.

If you aren't using AI to simulate a 1-on-1 mentorship, you're leaving 10x growth on the table.
