@WG_RumblePants For all of my cricket following life I have always looked forward to the first Thursday in June (in most years) and to the 1st Test of the English summer - not anymore. The governing body and it's national side set-up sadly don't take Test & 1st class cricket seriously enough.

I’m indescribably excited for the start of the England/New Zealand Test series. I’m sure I’m not the only one! Has McCullum learnt anything since his Ashes humbling? Can England adapt? Is Bazball dead? Can Stokes stay fit? Can Gay do better than Crawley? Who will bat 3? Can England take 20 wickets? Will Bashir get a game? Will Rew? Will Joe Root do what Joe Root always does? And, rather crucially, can England win a series again?

@MediumPaceDobb1 Quite agree and delighted that New Zealand agreed to this. Unlike their upcoming hosts, NZ still take Test cricket seriously.

Yet again fans experienced major discomfort from stand closures at a T20. The X post had 74000 views. It's happened many times before. See Paul Edwards match report for example. Members complained in July 2024 when it happened, also against Notts! There is zero accountability

@RGregory23 @AnnieChave An inaccurate perception of county cricket. It still retains decent crowds and a large enthusiastic social following despite it's marginalised status courtesy of the ECB. International game is less appealing now and my interest in the national team has almost diminished.

Yes, sadly I agree with Paul Farbrace - this last Ashes was the first one I wasn’t invested in. That is really, really sad. McCullum may not be interested in county cricket but there are a lot of people that are.

@WG_RumblePants No. Sadly that ship has sailed. He should have been installed in the role when it was first created not long after his playing career ended and when he was still held in professional cricket terms in much higher esteem.

I’ve been critical of Michael Vaughan chasing headlines and trying to manufacture clickbait quotes. I think he’s tarnished his 2005 legacy a bit by doing that. I’m one of many fans that he’s blocked. But, having said all that, credit where it’s due. Having listened to him on the TMS podcast and his own pod today, he sounds a lot more competent and capable than Rob Key. He clearly has a vision for England. He is a proven performer. I don’t think he would take any crap. He might even knock a few heads together. Would you like to see him take over from Key?

@The_Grumbler I am not expecting anything to change one iota under this lazy, arrogant and incompetent ECB England regime. If anything the disconnect with counties and the wider cricket community will grow more. I would love to be proved spectacularly wrong.

So Key has arranged a ‘reset’ meeting with county directors TWO DAYS before start of Championship season. This from the Times today.
