On this day in 1871 @DerbyshireCCC began their first ever first class match, against @lancscricket at Old Trafford. On the first day Lancashire were bowled out for 25, Dove Gregory taking six for nine. Derbyshire won by an innings and 11 runs @ACScricket

I think this is where the word greatest gets muddled, you can obviously make a very strong argument that Steyn was a better bowler than Anderson for example, but in terms of greatness an extra 265 test wickets and a t20 World Cup feel like quite big things to ignore…

@dgriffinpix Yorkshire's lower order deserve the credit (excellent). DCCC should have won from the position they were in, but, realistically, their attack isn't suited to T20 cricket in 2026. Too often, they will concede a lot of runs at the back end. Personnel/skill issue (not "bottle" imo).

Disappointment here at Leeds, but thanks for the engagement, as ever, and I'll see you at Leicester on Wednesday to see if Derbyshire can break their 2026 T20 duck! Cheers...

On This Day in 1988 @DerbyshireCCC outplayed Middlesex at Derby in a Benson and Hedges Cup quarter final game. Middlesex were 110 all out - @devon_malcolm took five for 27 and Michael Holding three for 13. Derbyshire won by nine wickets, Kim Barnett making 69 not out…

@Joshdtdz @SibsMUFC There was always crowd trouble at Wolves/Stoke games. I've spoken to Wolves fans who say it was their fiercest off-field rivalry (whereas Wolves/West Brom was more a local derby rivalry, like Stoke/Vale). If that's wrong, fair enough. Either way, those days are long, long gone.

@WG_RumblePants I agree. I think Stokes should bat 7 (Smith 6). But, if Bethell's injured, I'd have him at 3. Nobody is likely to make runs there, but it might focus him and if he can average 30-35 this series, that's probably as good as anyone else. No. 3 could well ruin Smith or Rew atm.

@Marksism__ @poddy_8 Agreed. Flint, Chester, Johnson, Gooch, Pearson, Pearson, Cresswell, Gibson, Gallagher, Talovierov and so on and so on, "know the league", are Championship experienced. It's about getting the right players; and we should be looking in all available markets.

Again I know nothing about him and don’t want be negative. But it’s another player who won’t know the league and the demands, if we want to progress we need tried and tested championship players rather than having to nurture again

On This Day in 1984 @devon_malcolm made his debut for @DerbyshireCCC against Surrey at Chesterfield. His 753 wickets in all formats for the county has only been bettered by 13 bowlers in the history of the club...

@SusyQ1111 @mikepriestley13 That would be my guess (unless we actually saw him do it, which I don't remember). A lot of the stuff the gods do makes no sense (and there's the Kirsty angle), but I doubt Tyrone was involved in Theo's murder. He's more likely involved with the Carl situation.

Personally, hope he stays at Pompey (done very well there, but don't think he would be successful at Stoke).

@DeafMango Ali looked all-at-sea against Rana (who is bowling tremendously). It would have been irresponsible to take a single at the other end, but, with 130 needed, you have to trust your number 8 to take some strike/make some runs. Riawan's batted well, from the bit I have seen.

Surely you don't expose the tailender close to the end of days play, taking a single off the first ball, against red-hot Taijul. Rizwan needs to learn a thing or two from Litton.

@TVAddict2K26 This is just another reason I struggle with Emmerdale in recent years. They kill off or banish most of the everyday characters or characters it's easier to feel a connection with. And I fear for Nicola's future now. The Kings deserved better than this...than so much done to them.

As viewers we have watched Jimmy and Nicola - such an inspired pairing - go through thick and thin as a couple for SEVENTEEN years. How many other soap couples can claim that kind of longevity? Killing him off for some cheap dram will no doubt prove to be a short-sighted move.
