@PowderMagazine This reminds me of when palisades/squaw management cancelled the game of gnar. Now they have the $100k a year APEX club where you can skip lines and the peasants have to pay $75 for a hamburger with an ikon pass discount that ends at 11:30. We’re moving backwards!

Alta's "Frank" Closing Day Party Has Been Cancelled. The sun-soaked gathering at Alta’s Punk Rock with jumps, silly awards, hot dogs (which are thrown at contenders), and plenty of throwback kits... will be no longer. powder.com/news/frank-can…

@tim_dan23 @BiscuitsJesus @12_7_99_halleys So many fun nights patching out of your rig until I got my own. Those sure were the days.
English

@stone_ian @BiscuitsJesus @12_7_99_halleys Great times! Loved recording the shows, but I love Nugs more…lol.
English

@BiscuitsJesus @12_7_99_halleys I was there. It was in the fraternity courtyard. When the band started there were about 10 people there and got significantly more crowded for the second set. The later crowd was for the party not the band.
English

@ErieGreenDeep I hear you. Seems like most of the differences were off the stage though, financial and otherwise.

@BiscuitsJesus Change your cats name to magoo! Problem solved. Go home and see magoo.

Nine days in Truckee covering a historic Sierra snow, and a tragedy that took nine lives.
In the middle of the record snow, this mountain community paused for a candlelight vigil… coming together to light a candle, share the grief, and honor those lost in the avalanche.
Our full story is now airing nationwide on The Weather Channel. Take a few minutes to watch and witness the strength and heart of the High Sierra. @weatherchannel for the continued coverage.
English

@TahoeWeather 😢sending love and strength to everyone in the Truckee community and those beyond it, affected by this horrible tragedy ❤️❤️

The avalanche near Castle Peak occurred during the 3rd largest 5-day snowfall of 111", recorded nearby at the Snow Lab, since daily records began in 1970. The largest 5-day snowfall of 118.5" occurred between 3/28-4/1/82, during which the tragic Alpine Meadows avalanche occurred.
UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab@UCB_CSSL
*The other two being December 1970 (113") and April 1982 (118.5") with digitized records beginning in 1970.

@BeersnobJohn @stone_ian That’s about the same your mother will be getting tonight too
English

@stone_ian @BeersnobJohn I took some massive dumps during the holidays too. But to not go for a couple months? That can’t be healthy my friend! But the snow looks great!

@SoilandStream @depression2019 @BigThunc @jrockandrollt I’m actually sad about the situation and it hits very close to home as I live full time in this community
Not trying to make it about me. I am absolutely crushed for the families this affects directly and I don’t love the arm chair judgement from others on this site
English

Barring some sort of divine miracle it is likely that the 10 missing skiers died today, its been 9+ hours missing now.
This would make it the deadliest avalanche event in over 100 years. Catastrophic failure and lack of judgement from guides to go out in these conditions.
Colin McCarthy@US_Stormwatch
I took this video on Castle Peak Road around 11:30 a.m. this morning, when the avalanche that struck 16 backcountry skiers occurred roughly 2 miles away at Frog Lake. Winter storm conditions were extreme.

@FirstLast163796 @Theonlyjcvolly Don’t tell me what a good call is or isn’t. I’ll make my own decisions!

@depression2019 @BigThunc @jrockandrollt Your reading comprehension is horrible, Mr “depression”. Go back and read my comment and realize that I asked a question in regard to why he feels the need to make such based and incorrect comments with no real knowledge of the terrain or circumstances.
English

@stone_ian @BigThunc @jrockandrollt who are you to tell someone what they can and cannot commentate on
thats the whole point of this fucking app
English

@stone_ian @jrockandrollt @depression2019 They went out in a gigastorm and the predictable outcome happened. Many such cases
English

@parkerjlathrop @depression2019 The way they exited the frog lake basin wasnt the most direct path which travels through even steeper, more exposed avalanche terrain. The area of incident is not typically a slide path, but the facet layer combined with the ice bed that had formed became the disastrous recipe😭
English

@depression2019 It was the last day of a 3 day backcountry trip.
But still, you would think that the guides would have adjusted the trip or cancelled the trip, knowing that this storm was on its way. Sad stuff.
