@lie_lowkey I do not think auctions are random at all. Information asymmetry is the obvious factor (in Iyer’s case it is the bidding war as well if I remember right). That said, I have reasonable suspicion that they influence things in the background to stick to a ‘script’

@stopquixote Wrong coz IPL audience rarely (optimistic take) watches matches for breakout stars. Even new stars aren't fanshipped till they make it big. It's a league built on stalwarts.
Absurd prices for average players is just IPL auctions being random.
