Thank you to everyone who has submitted snow depth reports over the weekend to weatherquest.co.uk/snowdepth/map ❄️
Here's a closer look at the extraordinary snowfall event in Cumbria, based on a blend of submitted reports and radar estimates — some locations received well over 30cm!

@JamesAbbott2013 @danholley_ Hi James, thanks posting this image - I had no camera then, but was in Hawkshead on a UEA field course in April 2000 and sat out watching this event for over an hour and it's just like I remembered, lots of orange and reds!
English

@danholley_ Thanks Dan. We used to have darkest aspect looking north. That changed last few yrs - installation of dozens of "for effect" coloured lights - on all night in our rural area. V. depressing & completely avoidable. This pic is of aurora in April 2000 - biggest I have seen from UK.

English

Light pollution is making it more difficult to see the aurora than was the case until quite recently. Here, in a once naturally dark location, it is impossible to see the aurora in the north due to dozens of "for effect" coloured lights left on locally all night.
Dan Holley@danholley_
A glimpse of the #aurora in south Norfolk (52.5°N) on Monday evening — a lot of the green colours lower down were washed out by fairly substantial light pollution/haze, but some occasional magenta beams appeared ✨ Not very visible to the naked eye, this was an 8 sec exposure 📷

@danholley_ @RoostWeather it's funny how you "think" about it when you aren't forecasting and just relying on the output...after years on the other side, I didn't like it, I looked at models within 30 minutes of being back home, hah.
English

@RoostWeather haha, we've been having similar conversations all week in Wales @stormbell - makes a change to put yourself as the end user relying on app and mountain weather forecasts etc when you don't have access to raw model data

BBC EXAGGERATING TEMPERATURES ONCE AGAIN!
"One of Europe's highest ever temperatures is possible for Monday in Sicily; 48C! The European temperature record currently stands at 48.8C"
BBC Weather banks on people not knowing where they placed tomorrow's 48°C forecast in Sicily, to the West of Catania. The location is called Ramacca. This is the forecast from @accuweather . Quite different isn't it?

@walla7437 and @stormbell, your favourite topics were brought together in a great paper by @MasudaQureshi at this morning's @SRSRenSoc panel: Lucy Hutchinson translating Lucretius and philosophical ideas about the weather!⛈️📖📝

English

@donaldwmacleod @KirkHerbstreit @cbfowler I'll add my disappointment here. Wonder if @tntsports can pick up the ESPN streaming rights in the UK for college sports?
English

@RouseTeacher @GregGaspard @JayCuda it's even more impressive that we have won consistently through that period (well at least the last 8 years)...you might expect those numbers higher for trash teams?
English

@GregGaspard @JayCuda @stormbell Last 10 yrs weve signed all but one of our top 10 picks ....but here we are 🤷♂️
English

@walla7437 @DrPastonsRUs that's right, they are one of our development teams!
English

@DrPastonsRUs @walla7437 Yes Anna - where are you and who did you see?
English

@walla7437 I suspect @stormbell will want to know who was playing and now try to convert you into being a fellow Astros fan! Also, now you know the game, Anna, can you explain to me what the hell goes on in it?!
