I like satire with sanity but beauty and beast cohabit on this humbling street.

-Y'all criticize Sanwo-Olu over the EndSARS massacre but make excuses for Peter Obi concerning the Akwuzu SARS gruesome k'llings. -You condemn Gumi for being a bandit advocate, yet, justified Obi being his friend or associate. -Atiku is deemed morally corrupt, today Obi has turned political besties with him in the name of coalition. -Wike is desperate for betraying the PDP, however Obi is a strategist for always decamping for self-interest. -Obi is fighting for Nigerians, and same Obi supported Emefiele's cashless policy that was suffering Nigerians, backed the fuel subsidy removal, and selects what he speaks on. -It's performative when other politicians advertise their eyeservice donations, however, Obi is genuine despite moving around with cameras. -Obi is so accountable, and till date there's no clarity on the LP campaign donations. -He cares about the health sector, and during his governship tenure there was a "13-month strike by government-employed doctors", and Anambra South had no public hospital until Soludo's administration built one. -He wants to move the nation from consumption to production, and his most notable achievement in this field is partnering with the state govt to open a beer company as a sitting governor. -Till date no clarity on the "religious war" alleged phonecall with Oyedepo, or clarity on the Deji accusations. -He was heavily criticized from 2006 to 2013, now he's the next best thing to a messiah. Nigerians!

I visited the Ọgbọ ogwu and adjoining market today in Onitsha. As the biggest open drug market in Africa, it is not surprising that Federal Agencies and regulatory bodies would, from time to time, visit the market to enforce standards and check the sale of fake, counterfeit, and controlled drugs in the market. With drugs and related matters captured strictly on the exclusive list, my visit today was interventionist. First, I sought to ascertain why other markets close to the drug market in Onitsha were closed. Away from the media sensation created by a few political actors, the leadership of the Plumbing materials market, which was shut down alongside the drug market, confirmed to me that the discoveries made by the Regulators in some shops in the plumbing material market were both shocking and disturbing. Right inside these shops were found cartons of counterfeit and controlled drugs, many of which had been banned globally. How these drugs, which have been banned globally and locally, are still being manufactured in India, pass through our various ports (sea and air), and find their way to our local drug markets remains a question only the relevant authorities can answer. While we must rid our country of fake and counterfeit drugs, it is important for the Federal Government to tighten up the noose on the supply end of the value chain. I have directed that the search, which had commenced a few days ago, be expedited so that in less than 10 days from today, the traders at the Plumbing materials market can be allowed to reopen and commence their legitimate commercial activities. As a government, we are already building a coordinated wholesale drug centre in Oba, Idemili South LGA, that will accommodate the new and standardized Ogbo ogwu market. This is our own contribution to ending the current chaotic market environment where fake and counterfeit drugs thrive. ONITSHA remains the largest trading hub in Africa, we will further expand this status to a more befitting height. May Anambra Continue to win!

THE PEOPLE’S TAX BILLS The tax reform bills before the National Assembly are aimed at economic transformation to empower Nigerians and facilitate inclusive economic growth. The bills are: the - 1) Nigeria Tax Bill - harmonises all the major taxes such as corporate income tax, personal income tax, VAT etc 2) Nigeria Tax Administration Bill - provides a framework for tax management covering taxpayer identification, registration, assessment, collection, enforcement, etc 3) Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill - seeks to replace the FIRS with the NRS to perform a broader role of revenue administration in Nigeria and drive collaboration with subnational governments and MDAs. 4) Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill - to transform the JTB to JRB with an expanded mandate and enhanced role for cooperation and tax harmonisation. The bill also sets up the office of the tax ombudsman to protect taxpayers and advocate for tax simplification. Altogether, the bills offer a comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s tax framework to drive economic growth, support Nigerian households, and position the country as a competitive economy within the comity of nations. These reforms reflect a commitment to equity, efficiency, and sustainable development. KEY HIGHLIGHTS OF THE BILLS INCLUDE: 1. Empowering the Youths with Digital Economy Opportunities: Changes to income tax laws that will attract remote work opportunities in the global business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, enabling Nigerian youths to thrive in the digital economy. 2. Boosting Exports: Goods, services, and intellectual property exports will benefit from zero-rated VAT and other incentives to enhance Nigeria’s global trade competitiveness. 3. Support for Small Businesses: Tax exemptions, including 0% corporate income tax, VAT, and withholding tax, will apply to small businesses with annual turnover of N50 million or less. 4. Relief for Workers and Households: Minimum wage earners will be exempt from PAYE (personal income tax), while over 90% of workers across the private and public sectors will see a reduced tax burden. Essential items such as food, education, healthcare will enjoy 0% VAT while rent, public transportation, and renewable energy will be exempted, providing relief for low-income households that spend nearly 100% of their income on these necessities. 5. Simplifying and Rationalising Taxes: Over 50 nuisance taxes are to be repealed, with remaining levies harmonised into a few number of taxes. Corporate income tax rates will reduce from 30% to 25% over the next two years, and earmarked taxes on companies will be replaced with a streamlined single levy. 6. Enhancing Business Competitiveness: Businesses will benefit from input VAT credits on assets and services, eliminating the minimum tax on loss-making and low-margin companies. This will lower production costs and stimulate investment. 7. Fairer Tax System for All: A redesigned tax framework will ensure progressive personal income tax, VAT, and capital gains tax while safeguarding low-income earners. Taxes on foreign currency-denominated transactions will be payable in naira, easing compliance for businesses and reducing pressure on the exchange rate. 8. Equity Among States: VAT revenue will be distributed among states based on an equitable model to reward economic contributions, rather than the current model which is skewed in favour of states with head office locations where VAT remittances are usually made. 9. Taxpayer Advocacy and Transparency: The introduction of Tax Ombudsman to improve the tax system by protecting vulnerable taxpayers and advocating for fairness. 10. A New National Fiscal Policy: A strategic framework for fair taxation, responsible borrowing, and sustainable spending will be established to guide the fiscal system. These tax reforms aim to alleviate the rising cost of living, foster economic equity, and create a business-friendly environment to attract local and foreign investments. All tiers and arms of government are committed to driving inclusive growth and ensuring that all Nigerians benefit from a prosperous economy.
