I like how terrible the apple translation is, cause this actually translates to “SAIC Volkswagen” 😭

@adrianfclarke I’d much rather have this nice-looking reinterpretation for the EV package than a heavy-handed shape with floating roof and blacked-out C-pillar

@adrianfclarke 5 Series selling well shows that customers don’t mind different proportions that much. Package has normal ICE dimensions + extra height for the i5 battery tray. i3 works better. Less wasted volume ahead of the A-pillar; modern EV saloon instead of resorting to crossover shape

Alright, let's do this thing. My thoughts on the Neue Klasse i3. A 🧵(because I want to post more than 4 images). First of all, let's understand what we are looking at. This is the i3, which sits on the same platform as the recently released iX3 - pure EVs with their cells in the floor. This is NOT the next 3 series - not exactly. The ACTUAL next 3 series will continue to built on its current CLAR platform - but it will be extensively reskinned inside and out to resemble this car - so the i3 and the 320i will look the same but be substantially different under the skin. 1/n

I don’t know Ian Callum. I was way below his pay grade and anyway at the time the Jaguar and Land Rover studios were still separate. However it’s clear on the run up to launch of the Type 00 he’s doing the media rounds bemoaning ‘what could have been’ - i.e. his next round of cars that were cancelled, and doing a bit of history rewriting. I saw all those proposals and it was all more of the same - there was nothing new (if you Google you can find images of the cancelled EV XJ). There was only one ‘new’ model proposal that was truly, truly stunning - and that never stood a chance. Say what you will about the Callum Jaguars (personally I think the X351 XJ of 2010 was incredible) but the bottom line is those cars were not selling. In their best of sales, 2018 Jaguar sold about 180k cars. That year BMW sold over 2 million.

@masimilianzo Allowing illuminated manufacturer logos to be incorporated into certain front lighting functions, typically Daytime Running Lamps (DRL). There are rules around size & geometry. Look up UNECE R48 and R148

i3’s DRG is spectacularly good. 🔥 BMW is making the most of the new EU illumination regulations. Like the iX3’s it’s distinctive, and it works brilliantly on a lower body shape. Other brands can’t copy the look it without looking silly.

Following up- At this point, pretty much convinced that this is 100% a deliberate recalibration of how #Jaguar wants to communicate with its audience now. The shift is even more apparent in these little videos they’ve been putting out. A marked change from how the rebrand was expressed earlier last year wherein the brand’s rich legacy was, for all intents and purposes, shunned and kept out of mainline communication and social media. The visual language across recent content is still stylised and contemporary but with legacy cues (previous logos, motifs, design, racing heritage etc) more thoughtfully sequenced in now. Things feel more sure-footed with an anchor to the past. Fwiw, from an interest standpoint, the buy-in on the brand’s new direction could well be less-complicated to manage now? Time will tell. Will be interesting to watch this dialogue with the audience evolve in the run-up to the final launch of the car this year. More so, in the backdrop of the Jaguar creative and media business moving to agency WPP (although not sure from what date their partnership comes into force). Plus, industry experts who tested the mules recently have reportedly come back fairly impressed with the car’s on-road performance. Bodes well. #JLR #Automobiles #Cars #EV #Luxury

Looking at what all #Jaguar’s been upto these past few days in London - the activation at The Chancery (the new Type 00 parked alongside a 1935 SS Jag) plus the display and window work at Knightsbridge and new videos - all with a clear callback to its past and heritage, can’t help but think that perhaps this was the kind of line they should’ve taken from the get-go to land their rebrand / new direction / vision and the message of ‘Copy Nothing’ instead of setting things loose with *that* rather crazy chaotic video a year ago. It does appear as though they’re trying to make amends now in terms of what and how they speak to the audience (new and old) with a more pronounced acknowledgement of the past while still signaling where it wants to go. Looks like a little recalibration / reframing? #JLR #Automobiles #Cars #EV #Luxury #UK

Chinese whispers or something bigger? BYD is reportedly exploring a F1 entry, either with its own team or an existing one. Nothing is official, but rumours suggest the world's largest manufacturer of electrified vehicles (EVs/PHEVs) is seriously eying such a move. @BYDCompany

@RenatoTarditti Of much more worry is safety, with speed differences in close proximity, and the race start like we saw with Lawson and Colapinto

@RenatoTarditti It wasn’t too bad, but there is a novelty effect. If most of the overtakes are due to differences in battery state of charge and deployment timing which are largely controlled by algorithms over the lap and out of the drivers’ hands, it could get tiring pretty quickly.

La nueva reglamentación de la F1 salió ampliamente airosa en su debut en lo ÚNICO que importa, que es el espectáculo: las mejores 10 vueltas en los últimos 10 años y 124 sobrepasos. Lo demás EMHO es sopita.

I pored over the iX3 and really like it, exterior, interior and UI. Static impression of the Panoramic Vision display is very positive. Simple graphics just below my line of sight, configurable for a minimalist display, centre widget is controlled with the buttons on the wheel
