Left: trapped in addiction, daily shooting heroin, fentanyl & cocaine, homeless. Right: vacation with my parents, just applied to a university to study education with history as my second subject. 669 days sober. I haven’t felt this happy in over 15 years. For the first time in forever, I actually feel alive. I love my life again and I finally feel like me again. For over a decade, I was completely trapped in a vicious cycle. Hopeless. Depressed. I had given up on myself. Heroin and crack cocaine destroyed everything.. I ended up on the streets, becoming the exact person I always swore I’d never be. I knew I was going to die soon, just like so many of my friends did. Especially once I switched from shooting heroin to fentanyl.. It got so bad. I overdosed countless times.. it became routine. I’d wake up to Narcan and keep going. Deep down I knew my luck was running out. But somehow… I survived. And I proved to myself that life really is worth fighting for.. that real happiness is possible. Two years ago, I never would’ve believed I’d be here. I’m so incredibly grateful to my doctor, my therapists, and especially my parents. Without them, I wouldn’t be here today. I owe them everything. Thank God for giving me a second chance.
