Communities must be at the center of any decisions on cross-border oil developments. Transparency, meaningful public participation, and respect for human rights are essential to ensuring that development does not come at the expense of people and the environment.
EGI Uganda@egiuganda

EGI,alongside @Eacophostcmty @strecug @stopEACOP @AfiegoUg and youth activists held a press conference calling on Presidents Yoweri Museveni and Félix Tshisekedi to ensure transparency in cross-border oil discussions.Communities must be consulted, and their rights protected.

As we commemorate World Environment Day 2026 under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future," we call for urgent action to protect Uganda's forests, wetlands, rivers, lakes, and biodiversity from destructive extraction, and environmental degradation.

🚨@TotalEnergies' "independent assessment" of its land acquisition program for the Tilenga oil project in Uganda is a blatant attempt to self-certify its own compliance while communities are still in court seeking justice. Our press release ⬇️ #StopEACOP!

WATCH: Businessman Habib Kagimu: "Ugandans should not be cheated by oil and forget about agriculture. Our country is blessed with fertile land, abundant water, and tourism potential." “Uganda can easily welcome 10 to 15 million tourists every year. That’s a lot of money. If we focus on these strengths, the opportunities are endless." #ChimpReportsNews

Did you know? #EACOP threatens the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Both the pipeline & NCA lie in Tanzania’s Internal Drainage Basin, where water never flow to the sea. A spill into Lake Eyasi could poison waters flowing into Ngorongoro’s ecosystems.🐘

Tens of thousands of people have already been displaced to make way for the controversial pipeline, facing loss of livelihoods, inadequate compensation, and worsening socio-economic conditions. @kcbbankug, you're betraying the communities you claim to care about. #StopEACOP

KCB portrays itself as sustainable while funding a pipeline violating the Paris Agreement AND arresting those who question this contradiction. #FreeTheKCB11 #StopEACOP #ClimateCrimesNotClimateActivism

Silencing voices demanding climate justice and community protection only exposes the true cost of fossil fuel projects—environmental destruction, human rights abuses, and shrinking civic space.
