मुग़लों ने भारत को हर अवसर पर लूटा। उनकी लूट का एक बड़ा हिस्सा इस्लामी नगरों मक्का और मदीना भेजा गया। शेष धन उनके ख़ज़ानों में जमा रहा, जबकि आम जनता भूख से तड़पती रही और जो लोग उनके क्रूर अत्याचार का विरोध करते थे, उनका निर्ममता से संहार किया गया। हिंदुओं से उनकी भूमि छीन ली गई, उन पर इतने भारी कर लगाए गए कि वे भूखमरी की कगार पर पहुँच गए, और हमारे अनेक मंदिर, जो कभी विश्व के सबसे समृद्ध ख़ज़ानों में गिने जाते थे - लूट लिए गए और ध्वस्त कर दिए गए। मक्का भेजी गई मुग़ल संपत्ति के सटीक आँकड़ों का अभिलेख 1576 में अकबर से प्रारंभ होता है। उसने 6 लाख रुपये के साथ 12,000 ख़िलअत (सम्मानसूचक पोशाकें) तथा एक ख़ानकाह के निर्माण हेतु अतिरिक्त धन भेजा। उस समय एक सामान्य भारतीय की मासिक सैलरी मात्र 3 रुपये थी। 1577 में अकबर ने 5 लाख रुपये तथा मक्का में वितरण के लिए 10,000 ख़िलअत भेजे। इसके अतिरिक्त मक्का के शरीफ़ के लिए 1 लाख रुपये और बहुमूल्य उपहार भेजे गए। 1578 में फिर 4 लाख रुपये भेजे गए। इसी दौरान अकबर के शासनकाल में आए दो भीषण अकालों से त्रस्त भारत में अनेक लोग भूख से विवश होकर नरभक्षण तक करने लगे। अकबर के समय से ही यदि लाखों हिंदू ग्रामीण वसूले जाने वाले कर (नज़राना) को देने से इनकार करते, तो उनकी भूमि छीन ली जाती। उन्हें “अपराधी” घोषित कर दिया जाता। मुग़ल सेनापति गाँवों को उजाड़ देते, हिंदुओं के सिर काटकर शाही चौक में प्रदर्शित करते और फिर उन्हें पेड़ों या खंभों पर लटका देते ताकि लोगों में आतंक फैले। 1605 में जहाँगीर के गद्दी पर बैठने के बाद भी भारत की संपत्ति इस्लामी केंद्रों की ओर भेजी जाती रही। उसने मक्का के शरीफ़ को 1 लाख रुपये भेजे। 1622 में उसने फिर 2 लाख रुपये व्यापार में लगाने के लिए भेजे, और उस व्यापार से होने वाला समस्त लाभ मक्का के निर्धनों में बाँट दिया गया, भारतीयों में नहीं। 1628 में शाहजहाँ, जो कट्टर इस्लामी विचारों वाला शासक था, सत्ता में आया। उसने हिंदुओं पर जज़िया कर पुनः लागू किया और तत्काल 5 लाख रुपये मक्का भेजे। अगले दशक में भी उसने लाखों रुपये और बहुमूल्य उपहार भेजे। मक्का के शरीफ़ इतने प्रसन्न हुए कि उन्होंने उसे काबा की चाबी भेंट की। 1645 से 1650 के बीच शाहजहाँ ने 10 लाख रुपये से अधिक की राशि मक्का भेजी, साथ ही ऐसे बहुमूल्य उपहार भी, जिनमें लगभग 100 कैरेट हीरों से जड़े मोमबत्तीदान शामिल थे, जिनका मूल्य लाखों रुपये और था। इसी बीच उसकी शोषणकारी नीतियों के कारण 1630–32 का भीषण अकाल पड़ा, जिसमें केवल गुजरात और दक्कन में ही 70 लाख से अधिक भारतीयों की मृत्यु हुई। शाहजहाँ ने मरते हुए अकाल-पीड़ितों की सहायता के लिए कुछ नहीं किया। लेकिन उसके पास इतना समय अवश्य था कि वह चोरी किए गए सोने और चाँदी से दो विशाल ख़ज़ाने भर सके, जिनमें से प्रत्येक का आकार लगभग 70 फुट × 30 फुट (कुल 4200 वर्ग फुट) था। तुलना के लिए, फ़ोर्ट नॉक्स का मुख्य स्वर्ण-भंडार लगभग 4000 वर्ग फुट का है और उसमें लगभग 290 अरब डॉलर मूल्य का स्वर्ण सुरक्षित है। 1659 में जब औरंगज़ेब, जिसे एक कट्टर इस्लामी उन्मादी के रूप में वर्णित किया जाता है, ने सत्ता हथिया ली, तो उसका पहला कार्य मक्का के लिए 7 लाख रुपये भेजना था, जिन्हें 1662 में मक्का के शरीफ़ ने स्वीकार किया। औरंगज़ेब ने मक्का को प्रतिवर्ष लाखों रुपये भेजने की व्यवस्था की और वहाँ के मुसलमानों के लिए वार्षिक वजीफ़े भी निर्धारित किए। एक ओर वह हिंदुओं पर जज़िया लगाकर उन्हें आर्थिक रूप से दबाता रहा, दूसरी ओर जीवन भर मक्का को करोड़ों रुपये और बहुमूल्य उपहार भेजता रहा। मुग़ल परंपरा के अनुरूप, 1662-1665 के बीच उसकी नीतियों से उत्पन्न अकाल में भी लाखों भारतीयों की मृत्यु हुई। जब मुग़ल साम्राज्य के अंतिम उत्तराधिकारी अपना शासन बचाने के लिए संघर्ष कर रहे थे, तब भी उन्होंने भारत की संपत्ति मक्का भेजना जारी रखा। हमें मुग़ल साम्राज्य के अंतिम दिनों की स्थिति पर शोक मनाने को कहा जाता है, किंतु फ़र्रुख़सियर और बहादुर शाह प्रथम जैसे अंतिम शासकों ने भी मक्का के लिए प्रतिवर्ष 1 लाख रुपये की अनुदान-राशि निर्धारित की और इसके अतिरिक्त लाखों रुपये मूल्य के उपहार भी भेजे। तैमूरी शासकों ने हिंदुओं की अरबों डॉलर मूल्य की संपत्ति लूटी और उसका बड़ा भाग अपने इस्लामी केंद्रों की ओर भेज दिया, जबकि लाखों हिंदू भूख से मरते रहे। जो भी व्यक्ति उपलब्ध ऐतिहासिक साक्ष्यों को निष्पक्ष दृष्टि से देखेगा, वह इस निष्कर्ष तक पहुँच सकता है। वे दिन अब बीत चुके हैं जब हम अपने इतिहास से अनभिज्ञ थे और ऐसे दावों को बिना प्रश्न स्वीकार कर लेते थे। @AnupamPKher

The great sage Yajnavalkya decides to renounce his worldly life to enter the forest for deeper spiritual practice. Before leaving, he calls his 2 wives, Katyayani & Maitreyi. He proposes to divide his immense worldly wealth, properties & assets equally b/w them so they can live comfortably & securely. Katyayani accepts the wealth, but Maitreyi looks at the massive pile of riches & pauses. She asks her husband a single, devastating question: "My lord, if this entire earth filled with absolute wealth belonged to me, would it make me immortal? Would it bring me ultimate freedom from anxiety & fear?" Yajnavalkya looks at her & replies honestly: "No. Your life would simply be just like the life of any wealthy, well-provided person. You would have material comforts, but wealth can never buy liberation from the fear of lack/the cycle of dissatisfaction." Maitreyi famously replies: "Then what should I do with that which cannot give me absolute peace?"

Their feat reflects yet another example of the limitless potential of our Yuva Shakti and their passion towards science and research. Equally commendable is the fact that in the last decade, our students have performed exceptionally well in the various editions of this platform.
