@Barristerblog My first time in court as a trainee was before him, 1992. Counsel opened with ‘This case concerns a company voluntary arrangement’. Harman replied ‘A company voluntary arrangement? What’s that?’. ‘It’s s1 of the Insolvency Act, my Lord’. True story.

please stop telling us how easy you’d find it to give up Christmas for “just one year” and how you can’t understand why people are so upset about it we have ran out of medals

It really hasn’t. It’s just opened the eyes of people who weren’t looking before.

@dave_chivers disappointing to see people apparently with science PhDs getting this wrong. As far as the safety is concerned, it's not a sample of 94, it's a sample of ≈40,000, inc controls. The effective sample size for efficacy is 94, but that's plenty when the effect size is so large.

So the new Pfizer Covid vaccine is being celebrated as a 90% success on *checks notes* a sample of 94 volunteer cases with no other data released to explain sampling or method - and now they are applying for FDA authorisation. Sounds legit, whack it straight in my body.

I was 100% behind backing "the science" at the start of this crisis, because I saw no alternative. But after everything we've seen, I genuinely can't believe people are still saying "SAGE wants it. So it has to be done" without any critical analysis.

Here’s part of the cost/benefit section on “circuit breakers”. They will deliver a moderate reduction in transmission, likely only a flattening of deaths, at cost of a moderately negative non covid impact. Basically are no options which combine high efficacy with low cost

A while back I wrote about Russian Dezinformatsiya and how it creates distrust in vaccines. anthonycox.org/vaccines/2018/… Quelle surprise the meme that the NHS Covid app was developed by Serco first came from Russia Today (controlled by the Russian state). fullfact.org/health/Serco-t… 1/3
