@AVelascoCSUB @doctor2pi @Duncannedd @BarnellNicole @tom_karnes I am glad you brought up research databases. Often students think Google is the only way to research.

Hi All,
This has been a great chat! Let's finish strong with question #4 #CSUBTED and #EDTE4200! @Ststansberry @doctor2pi @duncannedd @BarnellNicole @tom_karnes

English

@KierstenSCSUB @doctor2pi @Duncannedd @BarnellNicole @tom_karnes As a secondary administrator I can tell you that there are so many ways our teachers use technology to allow students to create and learn at their own pace. Canvas does a great job of keeping the information in an easy place for students to find and review.
English

@Ststansberry @doctor2pi @Duncannedd @BarnellNicole @tom_karnes A4) I want to teach history at the secondary level and I could use technology by having my students look and find primary sources from the time period we are discussing. Also, we could use Canvas to increase classroom discussions with a discussion board. #CSUBEDTE4200 @doctor2pi

@MagdalenaBQG @doctor2pi @Duncannedd @BarnellNicole @tom_karnes This is a favorite among many teachers!
English

@Ststansberry @doctor2pi @Duncannedd @BarnellNicole @tom_karnes A4) The way I have seen increased engagement in the classroom is with the math game Prodigy. This game allows students to have fun while mastering new math skills. #CSUBTED #EDTE4200 @doctor2pi

@tom_karnes A4) My professional learning network has EdTech leaders who are always feeding me new resources that have been tried and are successful. #CSUBTED #CSUBEDTE4200

Last evening of the Slow Chat! Here's the next question. Make sure you include A4) before your response. Don't forget to tag #CSUBTED , #CSUBEDTE4200, and your EDTE 4200 professor.

English

@Brianna_Hern @Duncannedd Newsela is a great idea! I love that the same article can be translated, and accessed in different reading levels!
English

@Ststansberry A3) I recommend Newsela which has educational articles that can be translated into Spanish. It is useful to students who are native Spanish speakers learning English or vice versa. When incorporating technology make sure it can translate. @Duncannedd #CSUBTED #csubedte4200

Wednesday fun! Here's the next question in the CSUB EDTE4200 Slow Chat. Make sure you include A3) before your response. Don't forget to tag #CSUBTED , #CSUBEDTE4200, and your EDTE 4200 professor.

English

@Ststansberry A3) I have helped my EL learner learn math concepts through instructional Spanish YouTube videos which I assign to her via Google Classroom. I also like using Google Translate for translating vocabulary words.

@paddlingte78481 @DrEddiesClass We use Sora as well and it is great to have books about different cultures and written in different languages.
English

@Ststansberry A3.) In terms of tech tools in the classroom, the most consistent would be Google Translate. However, I have also heard of the app called Talking Points which automatically translates messages! As for advice, I would say patience is key! #CSUBTED #CSUBEDTE4200 @Duncannedd
English

@Ststansberry A3) When thinking about multilingual learners, educators can use google translate or programs like mylexia.com to make a positive impact on student success. My advice would be to try even if it seems intimidating at first. #CSUBTED @DrEddiesClass
English

@Ststansberry After taking my current class with @DrEddiesClass I have found that I love the idea of students using Flip Grid to communicate with their peers and share their own thoughts and ideas. I feel like using Google Translate would also be very beneficial for all students! #CSUBTED
English

@anelson20csu @DrEddiesClass @doctor2pi Babbel is a tool I have been going to explore. Thank you for mentioning it!
English

@alondra1071 @doctor2pi Sometime we forget the obvious. Translation dictionaries are important tools!
English

@Ststansberry A3.) Duo lingo is a great tool for kids. Using duo lingo along with other resources brings multilingual students to becoming fluent. I believe educators should use these resources along with their own curriculum to support multilingual learners. @Duncannedd #CSUBTED #EDTE4200
English

@DrEddiesClass I love Flipgrid because it encourages talking and students can redo their video until they are comfortable with how they pronounced and recorded their response. This encourages students to produce their best work.
English

@Ststansberry 1) I highly encourage using Flip to give students opportunities to practice speaking and listening. You can structure prompts that are scaffolded for learners at different levels. Flip gives them a safe space to practice and share. #csubted
English

@ruiz36038 @clemrodriguezjr Videos with closed caption or transcripts in another language are powerful tools!
English

@clemrodriguezjr @Ststansberry Hey Clemente! I believe that technology is particularly useful when teaching multilingual students since it allows for effective visual instruction. I use videos to support my English language learners, they learn at their own pace, and I can check in with them later if needed.
English

@Ststansberry A3: just piggybacking off what most students have said..google translate, duolingo, and padlet. Also, having students complete assignments that are digital instead of traditional worksheets.. #CSUBTED #CSUBEDTE4200 @doctor2pi
