The papal encyclical may be the final straw for me on here. AI really has broken most of your brains, and I’m including many people on here whose views I once respected. A war is coming, and Pope Leo is on the right side. Time to figure out which side you’re on too.

I have read Magnifica Humanitas. It's brilliant. I'm not sure if it will sink in immediately just how important this document is, but I recommend everyone go read it. We are so blessed to have Leo XIV as the current pontiff. His appointment is timely and necessary. It feels like, for perhaps the first time in my life, the Church is leading the way forward and not merely rolling with the punches or reacting to a crisis after it has wreaked havoc across humanity.

I really enjoyed the way he laid out that we can either approach emerging technologies as those who built the Tower of Babel, or we can approach them as Nehemiah when reconstructing Jerusalem. Beyond that, I found chapters 3 and 4 to be the most engaging and relevant. Section 99 is a clear, unwavering examination of AI from a metaphysical viewpoint which I think is very necessary when so many fear AI becoming sentient and taking over the planet (as much as I found Our Lady of the Artilects enjoyable, it is after all science fiction). Chapter 4 establishes an excellent foundation for the need safeguard truth against algorithms and uphold the dignity of work as an integral part of what makes us human. If I had to assign sections for anyone I would say to pay special attention to Sections 92 - 180.

@suasoptics No complaints–can you at least point me to where the genius lies? For example,I saw nothing but beautiful phrases without any specifics. The well-known facts about the desire to usurp power were clear even before this point. Сould tell me pls which section has the most genius?
