This isn’t just Deadpool saying ‘Oh, Hello’ to the MCU. It’s Deadpool – and Hugh, Shawn and me – saying farewell to a place and an era that literally made us. We are forever grateful to the fun, weird, uneven and risky world of 20th Century Fox. It was our origin story and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. And thank you to Kevin Feige and Disney for allowing us to share it. ❤️💛 #DeadpoolAndWolverine

Note the Nazi flags in the table next to it. People are making excuses for @JDVance's context free post, where the presence of the Nazi imagery will certainly make fascists swoon. But, if Kamala Harris took a picture at a sales expo where an image of a Che t-shirt was present, they'd freak out. LOL!

The @UPS store by me has had a “we’re open if we feel like it” policy for about 6 months now, and UPS drivers trying to deliver to the Access Point boxes inside have begun leaving “sorry we missed you” tags on their door. This apocalypse sure is boring.

Hungary now allows Russians and Belarusians to enter the country without the usual security screening. Hungary is also a Schengen country, which allows Russia and Belarus to send their agents around Europe without much hassle. And the EU will do nothing.
Pete@splendid_pete

🇭🇺 The Hungarian government has introduced a National Card from July that allows Russian and Belarusian “guest workers” to enter the country without the usual security screenings. This policy, which follows the closure of the controversial Russian-controlled International Investment Bank (IIB) or “spy bank,” has raised significant national security concerns. Key points include: • The National Card system allows workers from eight countries, including Russia and Belarus, to enter Hungary without a cap on numbers and without specific job restrictions. • The card simplifies the application process, does not require proof of job demand, and allows family reunification. • Although the card is ostensibly to facilitate projects like the Paks II nuclear plant, the need for large numbers of Russian workers for this project is questionable, given existing Russian presence and the slow progress due to regulatory issues. • Security expert Rácz András warns that this policy could open a loophole similar to the IIB, potentially allowing large numbers of Russians to enter Hungary with minimal oversight, posing a significant national security risk. • This policy could also facilitate the movement of Russians within the Schengen zone, bypassing the restrictions faced by typical work permits. The lack of clear necessity for such a broad and unregulated entry mechanism for Russian and Belarusian workers, combined with the potential for inadequate security vetting, raises serious concerns about the implications for Hungary and the wider Schengen area. forbes.hu/tarsadalom/oro…

A week after the nuclear bombs were dropped on Japan only 5% of Americans felt that the weapon should not have been used. 23% thought that many more should have been dropped before Japan was given the opportunity to surrender. Power of war propaganda. In general (works the same).

@Pinboard @adrianshort What we learn in Paris is that a street always divides at some point to avoid congestion, and that was part of Haussmann design. Never heard of any other reasons.

@adrianshort I hear you. When (ha!) I get the energy I'll try to find a definitive answer. I can see this being a just-so story, and I can also see Napoleon III appreciating the value of good artillery

This thread leaves out that a lot of Haussmann's rationale for building broad boulevards was to make it easier to fire cannons at the rabble if there was ever another revolution/commune. For the record I'm 100% Team Haussmann on this, but it was worth mentioning in the thread.

Why does Paris look the way it does? Well, until the year 1853 it was a diseased and overcrowded Medieval city — then the biggest urban renovation in history was announced. This is the story of how Paris was transformed into the world's most popular city...
