that’s because meta is trying really hard to make instagram feel social again instead of just another content consumption app. a lot of gen z and gen alpha users barely post anything anymore. they just scroll reels for hours. instagram knows this. features like instants are basically attempts to recreate that old “send random stuff to friends” behavior so people feel active on the platform again instead of passively consuming content beside bots and influencers.

Instagram shipped Instants without any user education 👏🏻 Not sure how this got approved. It pops up in the app; you click a picture and it gets sent to all your friends with no preview. It even takes a while to figure out how to delete it. If you ask 100 PMs, almost everyone would not approve it in the first place. Even if they did, they would include a user education journey. Terrible, coming from a big company like @Meta.

Story time: I cold approached a girl. Few days back, I was in a cafe. I saw a pretty girl sitting in the next table with her friend. I wanted to just sit there but somehow I finally gathered the courage to actually get up. I went up to her, said hi, and then complimented her by saying she looked pretty. I expected her to say something like - thanks etc, but she said nothing ( she literally made this face 😐 ) Her friend ( visibly annoyed ) said something along the lines of, we heard you. It all felt very awkward to me, so then I just left. Mind you this took a lot of courage for me to do, I don't do this everyday. So why am I sharing this? Well I thought of something, I took action and I got a result. The result isn't what I expected but that's life. Nothing that I got in my life was one shot wonder - but I keep trying and eventually it all works out. So keep taking your shots, the awkward ones, the ugly ones, and the unprepared ones.

Ambition is a double edged sword. Ambition without courage to do the hard things leads to a frustrated, depressed, angry person. Who is perpetually feeling trapped and stuck and takes it out on others, especially their loved ones. Great ambition blooms when it is coupled with great courage. Courage to do the hard things, courage to walk a different path, courage to fail, courage to be misunderstood, courage to be mocked.
Reads with Ravi@readswithravi

This sentence by Dostoyevsky never fails to hit hard: “You sensed that you should be following a different path, a more ambitious one, you felt that you were destined for other things but you had no idea how to achieve them and in your misery you began to hate everything around you.”

Most of us review code in the wrong order. We spot a missing test or a style inconsistency before even asking whether the code is correct. We should think about it differently. The first question should always be: Does this code do what it is supposed to do? If the answer is no, nothing else matters. Style, structure, tests - all secondary to correctness. Once you are confident it is correct, ask if it is clear. Can someone else (or you, six months from now) understand what is happening and why? Clarity in code helps ensure it does not become a liability. Then check whether it matches the style and conventions, because inconsistencies add cognitive load for everyone who reads the codebase afterward. After that, look for duplication. Is this solving a problem that is already solved somewhere else? Could this be a shared utility? Finally, ask whether it is well tested. Not just "are there tests" (non-sensical ones), but do the tests actually cover the meaningful cases? Correctness. Clarity. Style. Deduplication. Tests. In that order, every time. Hope this helps.

I haven't used Zed that much so I'm not really sure about its limits. Antigravity on the other hand is a big mess. It freezes constantly mid session just after 2-3 prompts. The only reason to use it is that I get to use "Claude Opus 4.6". I have to be really cautious about model selection cause I'm short on money these days. Though I guess it's a good exercise, trying to spend less on tokens without affecting my productivity. But I might as well go for Opencode Go if I hit the limit too fast. I really like how it good it is, plus it's UX.

@sudipbuilds yea, I also want to know how much you can get out of the $10 credits you get on the Zed Student plan. Antigravity, gemini cli - there are horrible. Copilot is also just quite unusable now with their new weekly rate limits. I am really considering to go for opencode go, lets see

Will be running with Zed’s student plan + Antigravity + Opencode for now. Free models for small tasks. Stretching them as far as they go until I can justify Claude Code again.
sudip@sudipbuilds

my cursor sub expires next month so trying a few alternatives. here are first impressions - copilot - isn't helping much. antigravity - chat freezes after every 2-3 prompts. opencode - does the job, will stick with it until i can afford claude code. what should i try next?

This heatwave has actively fucked my brains over man. I cannot remember the last time things were this bad, especially in Pune. And there seems to be so signs of relief in sight.

As models become unreliable and more expensive, we slowly start to make some tiny code changes manually. “Why waste my 4-request daily limit on this tiny issue when I can make the change in 30 seconds?” During uptime, we ask models to write proper docs so that we can make changes when models are down and/or nerfed into pure stupidity. We slowly realise that true reliability lies in ourselves. Everything else is maya. We start to write more and more code by ourselves until one night we look back at the day and realise that we’ve barely used AI for anything more than autocomplete features. Slowly, the AI bubble bursts. “Remember that AI company? Man they could’ve been huge had they not been destroyed by their own greed” You are expected to grind leetcode again. You do it happily. The simpler times are back. The systems that the entire world ran on once have been reduced to tiny non-intrusive support instruments in the form of chrome and vscode extensions.

the best thing as someone looking for an internship or job >have proof of work build a portfolio even a small notion doc works >market yourself in public linkedin and x write blogs share them build products and talk about them share your learning it takes only one right person to see your post (if you are a dev and not creating content you are missing way too much)

Unemployment is brutally isolating. Hands down the darkest, loneliest period of my entire life. Months of applying nonstop, giving 100%, and still not even getting a single interview. You start feeling completely worthless. Like you have zero value. Like you don’t matter to the world anymore.
