I was today years old when I learnt that games have to be optimised differently for discs - because you can't read any part of the disc immediately. There's a thing called disk seek time which is really slow compared to SSDs, because the reader heads needs to physically move. This creates problems in situations like Fast travel when kind of all the assets are gonna be changed, so game developers actually duplicate assets across the physical disk to reduce this latency. For comparison the seek times: Blu-ray~100ms NVMe SSD~0.02ms NVme SSD has 5000 times faster seek time. Even modern PS4 games like spiderman has duplicate assets.
