I've been job hunting for sometime now, and here's what I feel I'm at a point in my career where I've worked at enough places to know exactly what kind of company and culture I want next. That clarity is good, but it also makes the search harder. Genuinely good AI engineering opportunities are rare. I tried LinkedIn, hiring. cafe, and similar platforms. I didn't mass apply because I assumed my experience would get me callbacks faster, I was dumb. The few places I did apply gave me zero replies. Posting this post hasn't led anywhere exceptional either(Maybe something comes out of it eventually, but nothing so far) Here's the frustrating part: my interview record is actually good. Every interview I've given has gone well. I'm just not getting enough interviews in the first place. So what I think at the some exp or mid-senior level, the real unlock is referrals. But that's exactly where I'm stuck. I'm the only person in tech in my entire family or friend circle. My LinkedIn and Twitter network is mostly people who are themselves job hunting. And cold DMing strangers for referrals doesn't work, nobody refers a random person. People say "just post insights daily on Twitter, something will go viral." Sounds cool, but it's not practical. I can't work a full day and then run a content operation on top of it. If I had that kind of free time, I'd have mass applied by now too. Honestly, it's a bit depressing. I know I'm good. I'm just not getting enough shots at bat. And I don't see a clear way out of that yet. Also to mention that applying to jobs is a job in itself and how mentally draining is this process.
