Twenty years ago we invaded Iraq. The war killed many innocent Iraqis and Americans. It destroyed the oldest Christian populations in the world. It cost over $1 trillion, and turned Iraq into a satellite of Iran. It was an unforced disaster, and I pray that we learn its lessons.

@iamkoshiek When I saw that, I thought here comes the opportunity for our local broadcasters to come to life, South Africa has so much talent and we can start by monopolising and creating content that will reach Southern Africa first then move it slowly to other continents.

DSTV viewers are getting a hard lesson in how global takeovers work 📚 mergers & acquisitions is affectionately known as "murders & executions" for good reason Canal+ is a $$4bn ruthless cost cutting & revenue churning machine -- no content is safe expect MUCH more pain 💔💔

How are they going to solve the crisis in the 2 hours he'd be addressing the nation? They'll just watch it on TV like the rest of the nation. The President is playing.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has instructed the ministers of water and sanitation and cooperative governance and traditional affairs to urgently attend to Johannesburg’s escalating water crisis instead of attending the 2026 state of the nation address. timeslive.co.za/politics/2026-…

Politics aside. What kind of person does this? Accepts a prized historic medal from someone who clearly did it under duress? After not mincing his words about wanting the Nobel, Machado HAD to hand it to him. And he accepts it without regard for how special it is to her? Sies. She is an idiot.

May I weigh in on this. I think you haven't factored something that is true for a lot of couples. And that is: AFTER you get married, to the person you WANT to be married to, when he has long been yours and you have long been his/hers; your heart simply does not see other people in a significant ways. Not in the way you describe. It doesn't occur to you to even compare because there is no reality in which they feature in your mind in that way. They are there in a non-threatening way. Your instinct is not to even compare them to your spouse because there is no comparison. He/She wins all the time. Your heart has a home. You admire others, get along with them, and see them, but they can't get past the checkpoints that your spouse got through. Marriage is not always this constant wrestling, this never-ending contestation. Your scenario below may be true in other cases. But it is also true that in a room full of phenomenal people, some can not see anyone better than their person because the impulse to compare doesn't even occur. They have arrived. That is also true of marriage.
🍂@Lovandfear

After you get married, you’re going to meet ‘better’ people than your spouse. You’re going to meet more good-looking people; kinder and more romantic people; more intelligent and funny people. You will meet people who have in abundance what your partner lacks. The mushy and romanticized idea that your partner will be everything to you, and will satisfy all your needs and wants is idolatry. Contentment in marriage is a virtue not often spoken about. You must wake up every day appreciating everything your partner is to you, everything they have, their beauty and the things that made you marry them because if you focus on everything they don’t do well, you’ll always meet better people. Protect your heart! See their best part, and always remember that your commitment to marry is more of a duty than it is of mushy feelings. You have to stay committed even on the days you feel your spouse is no longer the best fit for you… -Buchi

I'd like to share a memory of Tshidi's first radio broadcast. Disclaimer: memory is highly contested and I respect that some of you may have a different memory. This is how I remember it. Tshidi was on the traffic desk working with Aki Anastasiou. She had grown frustrated as she felt there was so much more she wanted to do. I didn't know her well at that time, but she cornered me after my show, sitting on those famous red and blue couches outside the studio. She was itching to just do some meaningful work. The problem wasn't her or her bosses. It happens in broadcasting that the slots are filled and everyone is just good at their roles. You keep knocking and waiting for an opening. Or you do something else and Tshidi did something else! A few weeks later, she used her phone to record some conversations with homeless people under a bridge in Braamfontein/Parktown. She encountered them every day on her way to and from work and was curious about who they were. She started talking to them: asking them questions about their lives, dreams, health, etc. She knew their names, there was some laughter too. The final product was really a beautiful, poignant audio testimony of humanity and agency. No editor commissioned the story. Tshidi saw, felt, and acted. We played the recording - I don't know if it made it on the news, but I am 💯% certain that my producers and I lined it up on our 10am slot. What followed was a one-on-one interview with Tshidi where she was the guest, telling us about her product. This was around 2012 and the rest is history. That's what I remember - Tshidi pausing to talk to people she didn't know simply because they were human and deserved to be heard. Tshidi demonstrating curiosity and not following "the obvious." Nobody was responsible for that output. She did it by herself and thus launched her place into the firmament of meaningful journalism. I reminded Tshidi of this every time she thought I was hard in my critique of some editorial outputs. We would go back and forth with messages. All I know is that I was speaking to someone who had CREATED her own journalism beat - human stories- at a highly competitive platform. The bar was high because she put it there with her first creative, heart-felt production: Humanising homeless people whose dreams were swallowed up by trauma and neglect. Tshidi did that. By herself. Goodnight and Farewell.

You can not make this stuff up. The US wants South Africa's help. Yes, as they up the ante against immigrants, they want South Africa to bring in migrants from Kenya, to help with.....the processing of Afrikaner "refugees." You don't believe me? Ok. 🤣🤣
