Best part of building an AI tool is that you get to learn a lot about models itself that you don’t normally looking into. I’m currently going through APIs of all providers to understand how reasoning/thinking works

@ardasevinc_4 @hridoyreh thanks. Not yet. Fuzzy search is not possible with Spotlight index. I have plans to write my own custom index, no timeline yet as it is a bigger undertaking

@ardasevinc_4 @hridoyreh That works too. I used to use it but found few limitations and started building FileMinutes

@hridoyreh FileMinutes is an app to search file faster in macOS. Focusing on simplicity and every day use-cases as opposed to complex search criteria.

@thesayannayak Not really. Building app doesn't mean maintaining the app

@krzyzanowskim This is the way. My upcoming app has the exact same thing. The interesting part, I don’t have to do much to enable these features, it is just baked in

Over the last few days I shipped 2 major features that would shock the pants off 99% of Electron apps out there: 1. Multiple windows – I just love it. I can keep all sessions in tabs or separate windows and lay out my work on the desktop however I want. x.com/krzyzanowskim/… 2. UI session restoration – this feels so natural. I can close the app and relaunch it at the exact moment where I left off. enjoy! and let me know if you like it!
Marcin Krzyzanowski@krzyzanowskim

The multi-window experience is core to macOS, and I continue to build on that in thecommander.app

As a native app developer, sad to see no one talking about native app as a solution. Our industry needs a reset and put things where it belongs to like JS go back to its origin in the browser
Alex Barashkov@alex_barashkov

Claude’s desktop app is a joke. UI, UX, performance - everything about it is bad. I don’t understand how a company with infinite money can’t hire someone, or at least allocate resources, to fix it. Compared to it, the Codex app is a masterpiece.

If you are building a product, my advice is to take the same time you would have taken before AI. The reason is AI has lowered the barrier to entry. If you build an app in a few days, you’ll now be competing with tons of similar apps, including vibe-coded ones. You need to go to the next level. It doesn’t mean adding more features or making the app complicated. Use the time to polish it, focus on user experience, spend time on marketing, and anything that differentiates it from others.

My AI chat app for macOS is going to be far better than anything in the market in terms of performance and user experience. I wish I could show it to you all, but keeping it private for now. 😄

@anaydot Yah Textual was my first choice. Yes, it is not meant for streaming and also for large Chat with tons of markdown it struggle with scrolling

I know writing my own Markdown viewer from scratch sounds like an overkill, but after trying a lot of macOS AI chat apps I realised Swift still doesn’t have a high performance Markdown library. In the apps that stay fully native and use Swift-based Markdown libraries, the rendering is often slow. You feel it when messages get long, or when streaming is fast. The apps that feel faster usually take a different route: WKWebView. They render Markdown as a web page. I tried WKWebView too. There are tons of ready made JS Markdown libraries and you can ship something with almost zero effort, but it doesn’t have the native feel and experience. That’s why I’m building my own Markdown viewer. I want it fast and truly native on macOS.
