There are things in this world that should never happen and yet, they are happening. This story sounds like fiction. But this is our life. Two and a half years ago, when the Israeli army entered Al Shifa Hospital, they took a number of newborn babies from the maternity ward. Newborns. They were separated from their mothers, from the only warmth they had ever known and sent to Egypt. Without names. Without families. Without anyone to claim them. They disappeared. For more than a year, there was no news. No answers. No certainty about whether they were even alive. Yesterday, some of them were returned. And I cannot stop thinking about one moment. A mother standing there.. trying to describe her child. Describing the face of a baby she had only known for less than a week. Trying to recognize her own son through memory alone. Through fragments. Through hope. Through pain. Then, suddenly.. he is in front of her. Alive. She breaks. A joy so overwhelming it almost looks like grief. And the child? He looks at her .. without recognition. Without memory. Without the instinct that should have guided him back to her arms. He does not know her !! And perhaps what is even more devastating he does not know what a mother is. What kind of world separates a child from his mother before he even learns her face? What kind of war steals not only lives, but the most basic human bonds? This is not just loss. This is something deeper. Something colder. Something that tears at the very meaning of being human. This .. is what hell looks like. #WoundedGaza

Shivalik entering Mundra Port was expected. But the crew that sailed her through the Strait of Hormuz deserves acknowledgement. Yes, three Visakhapatnam-class destroyers with their integral Romeo helicopters were deployed in the area, but navigating that tense corridor still requires nerve and professionalism. Respect to the crew.

IndiGo seems to have added a direct service from Chennai to Réunion Island, which is actually a very interesting development. Réunion is sometimes referred to as the “French Hawaii.” Think volcanoes, waterfalls, dramatic cliffs and some of the most spectacular hiking landscapes you can find on any island. We visited many years ago and at that time it was almost unheard of among Indian travellers. Making that trip work required quite a bit of digging because information was scarce. One important thing to know is that Réunion is a French territory but it is not part of the Schengen region, so a Schengen visa will not work there. If you are planning a longer stay, Indians need to apply for a French Overseas Territory visa, which allows short stays of up to 90 days in French overseas territories including Réunion. However, there is also a visa waiver program for Indians and Chinese for stays of up to 15 days. It is important to remember that this is not visa free. It works through a visa waiver voucher that must be issued by an approved incoming agency in Réunion. When I travelled, after searching quite a bit I managed to contact a local DMC that issued the waiver voucher for around €20–€22 without requiring any bookings through them. At the same time, a few Indian tour operators were quoting extremely expensive packages just to arrange that voucher. My suggestion would be to avoid any operator offering absurdly priced packages for the waiver. A better approach is to contact incoming agencies in Réunion directly. They can usually issue the visa waiver voucher if you book accommodation through them. You can even request them to book just one night or a hotel of your choice. Rates are generally similar to OTAs or slightly higher, and in most cases the visa waiver processing fee is included with the booking. Earlier some DMCs used to issue vouchers if you showed confirmed flights and hotels, but the system seems stricter now and many agencies prefer confirmed accommodation through them before issuing the waiver. Flights can still be booked independently and then you can coordinate with a local agency for the accommodation and the waiver voucher. One important point to remember is that the waiver request must be submitted at least 10 days before your scheduled trip, and even with the voucher entry is still subject to immigration discretion. Réunion itself is an incredibly beautiful island and ideally deserves 7–10 days to explore properly. Another useful tip is that Réunion is extremely well connected with Mauritius, just about a 45-minute flight away. For Indians this used to be the most common route to reach the island, and even now if you are redeeming points routing via Mauritius might make more sense. Both Air Austral and Air Mauritius operate multiple daily flights between MRU and RUN. If IndiGo’s Chennai flight continues, Réunion might finally become much more accessible for Indian travellers. And it is definitely a destination worth exploring.
