I just had my brain melted. Microsoft’s new Agent Mode in Excel isn’t just a gimmick, it’s like having a superpowered co-pilot living inside your spreadsheets. You describe what you want, and boom: it automates, analyzes, builds formulas, even reshapes entire models on the fly. And it doesn’t stop there. Agent Mode is also in Word and PowerPoint. That means your documents can basically write, restructure, and fact-check themselves while your presentations design and adapt in real time. This isn’t just “smart suggestions.” It’s like the Office suite just grew an actual AI teammate who never gets tired. Honestly feels like we’re watching the future of work unfold right inside the apps we’ve been using for decades.

As AI becomes more capable and agentic, models themselves become more of a commodity, and all value gets created by how you steer, ground, and finetune these models with your business data and workflow — and how they compose with the UI layer of human to AI to human interaction. That’s why today we are announcing wave two of Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Welcome to Microsoft, @mustafasuleyman. Thrilled to have you lead Microsoft AI as we build consumer AI, like Copilot, that is loved by and benefits people around the world.
Mustafa Suleyman@mustafasuleyman

I’m excited to announce that today I’m joining @Microsoft as CEO of Microsoft AI. I’ll be leading all consumer AI products and research, including Copilot, Bing and Edge. My friend and longtime collaborator Karén Simonyan will be Chief Scientist, and several of our amazing teammates have chosen to join us. @InflectionAI will continue on its mission under a new CEO, and look to reach more people than ever by making its API widely available to developers and businesses the world over. It’s been an amazing journey, with so much more to come. Thank you to everyone for your support. Things really are just getting started.

This is true. Most of the use cases of ChatGPT (writing, expanding few rough thoughts, formatting, etc), when done natively, on the work environment, will make the population "feel the AI" (in Ilya's words) more dramatically.

Increasingly finding that the one thing that most makes managers panic about AI is showing them, not the advanced features of GPT-4, but rather the fact that Copilot for Office can create an OK PowerPoint with speaker notes from a document in 47 seconds. This is all real time.
