yeah, coming out of my X break to say that the real case at the heart of fjord galvanised the Romanian far right and is one of *the* most consequential moments in the country's contemporary political history you will see NONE of this in the film, it's just background noise

Seeing Fjord as a right leaning/centrist movie solely because it makes you question whether or not a society that deems itself progressive is right in judging people for having different values than yours sounds like a genuinely moronic take and I do think it speaks to the inability of modern audiences to see past their belief system. I am a leftist. Have been all my life. I live in Europe, in a country with an incredibly high number of immigrants. Interacting every day with people with different cultures, religions, beliefs truly makes you think about how welcoming a society is when all it thinks about is forcing outsiders to behave how you expect them to, without considering their background and their life before they came here. Cristian Mungiu has said before: there isn’t one right answer for this. The movie is meant to make you think about it. And thinking about both sides of a story is not a centrist take, it’s an empathetic, compassionate one.

Acclaimed Hungarian Jewish director László Nemes just dropped a truth bomb at Cannes: “There’s an orgy of antisemitism, an absolute, shameless orgy of antisemitism, overtaking the West.” His 2015 masterpiece Son of Saul — a harrowing film about a Sonderkommando at Auschwitz — won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film and the Cannes Grand Prix. Today? He says it “wouldn’t even make the Oscar shortlist.” Because “of the politicization of cinemas, because anything that’s Jewish is now considered . . .nobody would touch it with a 10-foot pole.” This is where we are. Jews are being erased from the stories of their own genocide while Hollywood and the cultural elite cheer. The entertainment industry’s antisemitic purge is real — and it’s accelerating. We must call it out. Every single time. Thanks László Nemes for doing so at the risk of your own career. #JewHatred #Antisemitism

Inside the mass graves, they found children & babies with their hands bound with zip ties This photo is from 2 mass graves discovered at Nasser Hospital, southern Gaza, in April During the genocide, the @EuroMedHR documented over 130 mass graves of victims of the Israeli genocide

This is a misreading of Fjord. It’s primarily a film about undue concentration of power and how we protect some minorities but not others. The film’s most memorable dialogue is when the family’s lawyer answers the snark by the gov’s lawyer: “what would you do if you lived under Christian conservative rule?” “Rest assured, there too I’d defend minorities”
