For coding? Fuck yes, but still I love learning and being interested so AI has pushed me to learn a language myself. For image and design? No, I come from design background moving to 3D, personally I dont like automating the process because in itself provides pride and a skill you can expand on but I feel as though it is useful to help find articles and help when I can't find guide/help online.

perfect time to ask this do you like generative AI? specifically for image, video, design, code, and music, NOT text.

@spinelessaisha @__tidu you have to learn the workflow and is not bad at all. Is a reason why 3D is a separate application, the engine is already as big and complicated if not more than the 3D software, having both inside of one is not impossible but not realistic or proper.

i can't wrap my head around asset management in game dev like if i'm working in godot, i wanna make a castle that my game takes place in, do i make this in goodt? (bc it does have the tools) or do i make it in blender? or do i only use blender for small detailed assets? what do

There’s a famous Usenet story about a programmer (Mel) who refused higher level abstractions. It was the late 1950s, and even in that era, Mel was…well today we’d call him a boomer. Mel only wrote in raw hexadecimal. He didn’t approve of compilers, and refused to use optimizing assemblers. "You never know where it's going to put things”, he said. Everyone else in the company was moving on to FORTRAN, and they didn’t understand why Mel was so stubborn about using new tools. He *loved* self-modifying code. “If a program can’t rewrite its own code”, he asked, “what good is it?” Mel eventually left the company, and other engineers were tasked with understanding what was left. Mel’s hand-optimized routines always beat the assemblers; but some of it looked absolutely bizarre. One engineer took ~2 weeks to understand why there were loops with no exit condition…yet the program worked fine. I won’t spoil all the details, you should really read it, it’s short. But it’s a fantastic piece on “what defines a real programmer?”…which is becoming increasingly relevant in this vibe-coded era. I strive to understand computers as deeply as Mel! If we aren’t careful, we’re going to lose the “Mels” of this world to time. That’s part of why I go so deep in my youtube videos. I hope that younger viewers are genuinely fascinated by the inner workings of our machines, instead of handing everything off to higher abstractions.

I don’t think AI development should stop, stalling it could be harmful in fields like medicine (see what Google DeepMind and Demis Hassabis have achieved). The real issue is how automatic AI makes art an incredibly accessible field. If the industry only cares about speed, it risks making skilled, practiced artists redundant. I believe AI can have a healthy relationship with art, but it needs stronger guardrails so it teaches and augments the process instead of bypassing it entirely. Right now it lets anyone jump in with no background, experience, or real interest — and that’s usually who floods in when something becomes this easy and fast. Experimentation should always be open to beginners, but rapid, low-effort production shouldn’t devalue the craft or the careers built on it.

I agree with you, but stalling development now leaves artists in the worst possible position where only their work has become largely automated and already released as free models What outcome exactly do you forsee by stopping ai development right now if you could? Because artists have been largely taken advantage of as long as i've tried to make it a career, i personally see this as the better future if we hit a point where the cost of living is improved Im happy to have a rational conversation about it

The main reason I am pro-AI is actually because I want people to be able to do more art without struggling to make a living. I want artists to succeed. I want things to be cheaper, I want people to be able to afford homes and food. My biggest issue with the anti-ai movement is that we're in a technological transition phase where the capabilities are extremely jagged. The price of producing certain goods/services is approaching $0 for a lot of things. You can now generate high quality images for nearly $0. Basically anything that can be done on a computer: 3D models, code, music, books, articles, etc. If we take actions to stall development then we're likely putting those affected in a worse state because they will have no fallbacks for the loss of their primary source of income. I think this is an extremely dark timeline and ultimately worse for artists and everyone else affected. But if we can accelerate to the point where the goods and services you require to make a basic living; where you're not homeless, and are able to raise a family, then that is an extremely good outcome for everyone. Ultimately my hope is that we can actually spend more time on all the things that you would rather be doing than killing yourself to produce art for people you never wanted to work for in the first place. To me that's not being an artist that's being a slave. You can argue with me that its not the method to get there, but this is what I believe is possible and within reach in our lifetimes

As an AI user this is just brain dead. Blender has gone through multiple years with the foundation plans since it's inception and creation. To think that Blender should accept all kinds of donation and funding is ridiculously and entitled simply because you can move a vertices on your own. Regardless of money and dev being paid, Blender is an opensource product and majority of contributing dev aren't on Blender core team, so thinking that Blender is going nowhere if they dont accept and kneel down to AI funding is the most hallucinated opinion and belief you can have.
Mark Kretschmann@mark_k

You can never give an inch to the Decels. Blender had Anthropic willing to fund open-source development at a serious level, roughly enough for multiple full-time devs. After the usual anti-AI pressure campaign, they downgraded it from a real sponsorship to a one-off donation. And for what? Blender needs money, open-source needs money, developers need to be paid. Turning away support because the wrong tribe offered it is not some noble defense of art. It is just purity politics, and it leaves everyone with less.

@unitygames Unity are you planning on making Unity AI restricted to individuals who don't know the fundamentals of game development? That would be nice to force individual to learn the basics and the things every game dev have to know and understand.

Working with Rust and wgpu, even with AI, helped actually like thinking about UI and custom framework more. I encourage everyone, even if it's gibberish, to start paying more attention and become more pragmatic.
Nic Barker@nicbarkeragain

I've found UI programming to be very deep and interesting if you're doing it all from scratch (API design, layout, rendering, text handling, focus management, animation, input handling etc). Such a shame we condemned a generation of frontend devs to the browser black box.

@sunwukk990 @SnizzyFng @StonerDad * not to mention... Inhaling any smoke is objectively harmful to your health, as secondhand cannabis smoke contains many of the same toxic and cancer-causing chemicals as tobacco smoke, often in even higher amounts. What right do you have to put that on others?

First of all, you dont know me to know if I am an asshole but the braincells of most people in here can only assume so. I smoke pot too and I understand what you mean but at the end of the day most people are dumb (not you) and think aroma is making them high, which is not, mostly old people. I can agree with smokers being inconsiderate but you can't restrict a substance consumed and sell like others that aren't held to the same standard, specially one that are more dangerous like alcohol that can cause people to have chaotic and violent behavior. My bad if I came across like an asshole, I be trolling slightly.

@sunwukk990 @SnizzyFng @StonerDad It's not about whether or not it makes you high or not. It's about the comfort of others. I smoke pot. But I also respect the space of others. Most non smokers don't like the smell. I respect that. I would figure out a way to do it where it's not bothering others. 1/2

1. I was 9 when Trayvon Martin was killed. 2. George Floyd would’ve died less than a month later because of his drug habits and none of you would know his name nor do you care about the fentanyl crisis in this country. 3. I have made over a dozen videos over the years debunking claims that Derek Chauvin did not actually kill George Floyd. 4. I pushed for his prosecution. 5. To compare the scale of implications that arise from the deaths of Martin or Floyd to Charlie Kirk is retarded. It’s also odd that this post is botted. You have 200 followers and your video has over 500k views. 30k likes and 100 comments is not organic traffic. In conclusion: you shouldn’t accuse me of things other people did. That’s retarded. Thus, you are retarded.
