@klemensd77 @SmartScience Presumably old people are experiencing the cancers as it aligns with a weakened immune system, and young people are taking steps so it doesn't happen to them?
English

@SmartScience 3 times the incidence in men...
HPV vaccination of 50% of young people but rates going up not down.... Hmmmmm
How many of the HPV cancer cases are vaccinated?
Oh and oropharyngeal are only part of the cancers of the upper airways and mouth. 85% is still smoking and alcohol.
English

Oral sex has overtaken smoking as the primary driver of throat cancer.
In a significant shift in oncology, the human papillomavirus (HPV) has replaced tobacco and alcohol as the leading cause of oropharyngeal cancer. This specific strain, most commonly HPV-16, targets the tonsils and the back of the throat, where it can persist and replicate. While the body clears most HPV infections, persistent cases can trigger cellular changes that evolve into malignancy over time. Currently, HPV is responsible for approximately 70% to 85% of all throat cancer diagnoses in several Western nations, marking a public health turning point.
Research indicates that the risk of contracting this cancer is directly linked to sexual history, as the virus is primarily transmitted through oral sex. Studies show that a higher number of lifetime sexual partners correlates with a greater risk of infection, with men being significantly more susceptible to oral HPV than women. Public health experts emphasize that HPV vaccination remains the most effective preventive measure, particularly when administered to young adults, alongside increased awareness of the risks associated with oral transmission.

@IvyAstrix @ad0rnai Just make it adults only to start with. That's literally better than nothing and doesn't deal with the messy business of children consenting. Perfect is the enemy of good and we don't even need to get bogged down in that discourse to get a regulatory win here.
English

@superchromatic @ad0rnai the end result of what will likely happen is a parent being charged with child abuse and that precedent setting the stage
either it will be available to everyone or you'll need to go to prospera

fascinating exchange with an oncologist who gradually shifts the goal posts as his arguments are countered

@ad0rnai You can experiment all you want. Good luck finding any country with a regulatory agency that will allow this.
English

@bryancsk I've eaten whole bags multiple days in a row. You're probably going to be fine.

@vxunderground He used an em dash... Is AI generating these messages? He's famously lazy with punctuation..
English

@GutOptimized "Supplementation might make sense with:
- proven low plasma histidine
- severe protein deficiency
- rare metabolic disorders
- in some neurological research contexts"
Thoughts?
English

@GutOptimized Having discussed with AI, it said:
"You rarely need extra histidine, as it is abundant in normal protein intake, rarely deficient unless severe malnutrition exists, not usually a limiting amino acid (unlike glycine or creatine)."

@JacobAShell The change from travertine/sandstone cladding to they cold grey was an awful decision too.
English

As you can see, the original plan wasn't supposed to have the block of text. It was added in later. And that's why the block of text feels like an awkward afterthought which doesn't work as either writing or architecture.
I wonder who told the architects to add it in, hmmmm

Here's your first look at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago's Jackson Park. It will include a museum, library, and forum.

@s0uthrising @Crime_Penguin People today prize Novas, Chevelles, Mustangs, Challengers, Darts, Chargers, GTXs, Coronets, etc. they're all beautiful. So many post-emissions cars were just not there.
English

@s0uthrising @Crime_Penguin It's frustrating to see people taking the absolute peak trim version of one car in the catalogue (done up to the nines in 2026 btw!) and holding it up as a design ideal when most cars 68-71 effortlessly looked pretty good.
English

GM would counter your proposal by pointing out (correctly) that the last time it gave the American public a big, simple, RWD, V-8 powered car NOBODY BOUGHT IT

Will@willreil
Buick would make a bazillion dollars if they just re-released the grand national with modern safety features. Exact same car, bazillion dollars.

@DontRunImAsian @DiscussingFilm We remember them as just a toy company and that, in my mind, drives that strange sense of loss.
English

@DontRunImAsian @DiscussingFilm Ask now, "what is Lego?". Is it still a toy company or a design house? Do they make a tool, toys or decor? How significant is the medium? In the wake of the games, do you even need to own sets to be a fan?
They are many things and the lines between are very fuzzy.
