I think about this scene often in the movie Gattaca, where Ethan Hawke’s character outswims his brother. The film is set in the future, where people are genetically engineered, and Ethan Hawke is born natural with genetic flaws, yet through total commitment, he perseveres through life and achieves what is thought to be impossible. At the end, his genetically superior brother challenges him to a game of chicken, where they swim out to sea and the first one to turn back, loses. The brother (Anton) was defeated by Ethan Hawke (Vincent) when they were younger, but he never chalked it up to much. So in this final swim scene near the end of the movie, this is the dialogue between them: Anton: “Vincent! How are you doing this, Vincent? How have you done any of this? We have to go back!” Vincent: “It’s too late for that. We’re closer to the other side.” Anton: “What other side? You wanna drown us both?” Vincent: “You wanna know how I did it? This is how I did it, Anton: I never saved anything for the swim back.” That line “I never saved anything for the swim back” is replayed often in my head. It’s a message of unrelenting determination despite all odds. If you want to be successful, you have to outwork yourself and push past your mental barriers. There is no cheat code to life. If you want something, work for it.

A lot of our employees did not go to college, but they learn faster than college students. I am extremely impressed. On the other hand, when I interview graduate students and ask if they are willing to support the factory lines, they hesitate.

A BIG moment for @eMedHealth. We've just raised $200M at a $2B+ valuation, and we're bringing on incredible investors and partners who believe deeply in what we're building. GLP-1s are one of the most powerful advances in medicine we've seen in humanity’s history . But they only work if people stay on them. We've built an empathic agentic AI platform that makes that happen, one that meets members where they are and guides them every step of the way. And the results speak for themselves. We're building the future of AI-powered population health. And we're just getting started. 🚀

I've been thinking a lot about the future lately. Like really thinking. Every sci-fi movie we grew up watching is starting to feel less like fiction and more like a preview. A world full of robots, flying cars, AGI -- where humans don't need to work anymore and money becomes meaningless. Sounds utopian on the surface, but it's honestly kind of dystopian too. Because when you strip away work and money, the only thing left that matters is advancing humanity. Pushing the species forward. And in that world, it won't be led by everyone equally. It'll be driven by a tiny fraction of out-of-distribution individuals -- the ones who see what nobody else sees, who build what nobody else can. The top 1% of the 1%. And I've realized something about myself: my purpose isn't to be one of them. My purpose is to serve them. To find them, back them, clear the path. In a future where the biggest bottleneck is identifying and unleashing the right people. That might be the most important role there is.

Every person you know (or even care for) should learn a trade during their early years. These programs include (welding, fabrication, plumbing, hvac, electrician, etc.). Kids and ADULTS are so out of tune with what is needed in today’s world of AI. I can personally tell you, the most in demand resources are those that can build, support building and work with their hands! Common sense, removing hurdles and asking the questions come from experience. If nothing else, it will guarantee a positive economic future for the ones that do so. We are building things in 🇺🇸! Three photos below: 1. BBQ pit that I (in high school) designed, fit and welded for a competition that ultimately awarded me a AWS welding scholarship for college. Materials: - 36” schedule 80 pipe (spliced together because they were donated coupons by pipeline company) - 1977 boat trailer axel and tires (modified to accommodate weight) - 6” flat bar and various other scrap plate from local church donation. 2. Showing animals in FFA and 4H which were paid for by me working after school and weekends bailing hay, stacking lumber operating equipment, brush hogging and welding from 6th grade on. Learned hydraulics, mechanical systems, troubleshooting and time management out of necessity. 3. Teaching local kids to weld/fabricate. Passing knowledge to kids today is critically important to the success of our youth, industry and country!
