Instead of taking out $78 billion in FY25 and FY26, imagine they could take out only $50 billion after a real correction. Where did the extra $28 billion come from? That money came from ordinary Indians investing into mutual funds, believing the endless “Mutual Funds Sahi Hai” narrative. Today, a large part of that money is sitting in foreign bank accounts as booked profits, and it is not coming back anytime soon. We are effectively transferring hard-earned Indian wealth abroad while making ourselves poorer in the process. This includes retirement savings, monthly salary savings, money kept aside for children’s education, weddings, and family security. And it’s not just retail money. This also includes EPFO corpus, LIC investments, and other public savings indirectly exposed to the market. We wrote about this exactly two years ago. Back then, people mocked it as fear mongering. The reality check is coming soon. No amount of instagram reels can fix this.
