Colin Albert, Karen Read's Collateral Damage : The Players Who Ruined the Life of A Teenager Colin Albert was a high school senior on January 29,2022. He had stopped by 34 Fairview to say happy birthday to his cousin and had left prior to Karen Read and John O'Keefe arriving at the property. Through a disgruntled town gossip, Tom Beatty, Karen Read learned that at some point in the evening, Colin had been at 34 Fairview. From there, a story was crafted to implicate Colin in John O'Keefe's death. Here is a run down of the people involved. Karen Read: Accused of murdering John O'Keefe and acquitted in June of 2025. Read's pretrial strategy was to concoct a conspiracy between the MSP investigator, Michael Proctor, and the witnesses at 34 Fairview in an attempt to get her case dismissed. Read went through over 1300 photos on social media trying to form connections between the witnesses and Proctor. She also fabricated characters for each of the witnesses. She turned Brian Albert into a volatile loose cannon who was trained as an MMA fighter. She manufactured an affair between Jen McCabe and Brian Albert roping in a forensic expert to misinterpret a timestamp on a tab to make it appear McCabe had googled how long to die in the cold at 2:27am, a search Read had asked McCabe to conduct the following morning after John had been found in the snow. Read turned Colin Albert into an out of control teenager with anger issues by taking real life events, such as when a group of teenage boys left beer cans on O'Keefes lawn, and substituting Colin. She turned Brian Higgins into an accessory by claiming she had a confidential informant who stated Higgins moved John's body to the lawn in the early morning hours. Read covered up her own connection to Higgins and the fact that she had aggressively pursued him while still in a relationship with John. David Yannetti: Read's original attorney who claims he received a phone call on 2/2/2022 after Read's first arraignment telling him the "homeowner" and his "nephew" were involved. Yannetti would go on to claim the "nephew" was Colin Albert and he had information that Colin had been at 34 Fairview. The information Yannetti had did not conclusively prove Colin was at the property at the same time as Read and O'Keefe. In fact, the only legitimate evidence he had was testimony stating Colin had left prior to the pair arriving. Tom Beatty: Canton resident and former friend of John O'Keefe. Beatty is the only documented source who stated Colin Albert was at 34 Fairview. Initially, the lie spread was that Colin had called Beatty's daughter Erin for a ride away from 34 Fairview at 12:33. While Colin had called Erin, the lie would later dissolve under scrutiny since the girl did not possess a drivers license. Alan Jackson: Read's second attorney from California brought on in late summer of 2023 after Read was indicted for murder. Jackson was brought in for pretrial work to get the case dismissed. Jackson pushed the conspiracy repeatedly outside the courtroom and directly accused witnesses of being involved in extra judicious statements he made on the courthouse steps and in media interviews while practicing pro hac vice under Yannetti's license. He is also alleged to have provided a later nonsensical lie, that the call from Colin to Erin at 12:33 was an "alibi" call. ( See text exchange below between Tom Beatty and Aidan Kearney) Aidan Kearney: Failed high school teacher turned blogger who published his first piece on O'Keefe's murder in April 2023. The blog was heavily influenced by Read and adopted defense allegations as fact. At times, Kearney would copy and paste directly from messages with Read to the blog. Kearney viciously attacked Colin in blogs and on his live show, accusing him of murdering John O'Keefe based on the lies Read was providing. Kearney would later state his "role" for the defense was to increase and keep public interest on the case and fundraise for the defense team.
