@johnrheritage Devil’s Advocate: so that would make a Raspberry Pi “retro”

@sutehk Fair question -- I think "retro" also means making do with limited resources.. which this definitely has like the original.

No, it's pretty easy. The C64U can be opened with three screws, the keyboard is connected via a short USB-C cable. The flat ribbon cable has noses so you can't connect it wrong (Pin 1 to the red mark of the cable), but the user port adapter needs to be turned facing upwards - and you need to twist the cable for that (see my picture). The WIC64 could be connected wrong potentially.

@gregnacu Wheels on a 128 is impressive….. unfortunately most of the GEOS software wasn’t written to take advantage of the 128 goodness at reverts back to 64 mode. But 80 columns on GeoFile and GeoWrite especially increases usability by leaps and bounds.

Wow, Wheels 128. Running in 80 column mode at 2Mhz. Something tells me this is a rarely seen operating system! GeoWrite on the VDC looks great. #C128 #C64

@VirtualJames @sutehk It has an optional internal ramcard, used to max out at 16MB, 64MB or 256MB. It also has a RAM cartridge port. You can stick an 17xx REU or GEORAM in that port, and the RAM gets partitioned as fast storage with a full CMD-HD-like DOS.

The RAMLink hardware test program was giving me errors instantly and on every single pass, until I installed the timing clip. Now look! 👀 Many passes, zero errors. @sutehk #C64

@VirtualJames @gregnacu CMD was a great company the products they came out with allowed the C64 use cases that extended its life. Unfortunately it was at the very end of the 8-bit era so they ended up being pretty niche.

@VirtualJames @gregnacu I’d say it’s more of a instantaneous access storage device with partitions like a hard drive but it can be connected to a cmd hard drive to allow faster access to the drive. It’s a hybrid device that is really its own thing.

@gregnacu @sutehk Is the RAMLink more like a hard drive than a standard REU? I'm sure I read you can still add an REU and battery backup, I think. I've never used one
