Almost the same conversation I had with my Dr, and after I told her that I lost the 50lbs on carnivore, she said I think we should run a comprehensive cholesterol test. I imagine she was surprised when my test results were better than the ones she ran 6 months ago. But she was still pushing those statins.

Actual conversation at Doctor’s office “Wow, Mrs Jones you look great, I almost didn’t recognize you!” Thanks Doc, I lost 130 lbs, got off my blood pressure meds, no longer have diabetic blood glucose numbers, my depression is gone and my knees no longer hurt so now I can get regular exercise” “That’s awesome, how did you do it?” I started with a keto diet and then later went carnivore “Uh oh, that’s unfortunately not sustainable” I’ve been doing it for 6 years now “Well, regardless, that is not healthy long term” Wait, not being morbidly obese, diabetic, depressed and hypertensive is not healthy long term “No, that is good l, but the diet itself is not healthy, you need to use a different approach” What approach should I use? “I’m a big fan of a balanced Mediterranean diet” Is that what you do? “Yes, well I try to anyway” Pardon my candor, but why are you still fat then? “Well, I found out I have the obesity gene and also you have to be extraordinarily privileged to lose weight” Privileged? Aren’t you a doctor? “Well, yes, but I have a stressful job” So what are you gonna do? “I’m taking drugs now” Didn’t you tell me for 20 years that losing weight is all about eating less and moving more? “Yeah, whoops sorry about that”

I don’t usually share very personal things here, but this has been heavy on my heart today. My mom, Yvonne, is 84 and having a mastectomy tomorrow. She’s in Oregon and I’m in Texas, so I can’t be there with her. My brother and his wife are with her, and she’s surrounded by love and support. I’m optimistic about her prognosis and confident in her care, but when it’s your mom, the emotions still hit. I’m doing my best to stay grounded and not spiral. I’m not religious, but I am spiritual. So I’m calling in all the good energy I can. If you pray, meditate, or send healing intentions in any form, I would deeply appreciate you sending some her way. Thank you.
