@BischoffDev Now I find myself wanting some legit TDD humor, from people who understand TDD.

@estherschindler I asked a manager if I could move within the company to go work for him again. He said "no" - he could tell that I'd be happier being a consultant. So that's what I did.

@pragprog Focus on code that is added and modified. It's really hard to get motivated to refactor code that's working and doesn't need to change.

@mistergizmo @molly0xFFF Yes, I’ve found at the extreme end of code optimization, it’s best to let readability win over bumming just a few more lines of code.

@molly0xFFF I had wondered about that, too. But there is a trade-off: The tighter the code, the more non-executable comments are needed to explain to someone else what the code does.

@allenholub Yes, in general, I prefer to pair. My team allows people to take an occasional break from pairing, which I think is healthy.

Was asked "what are the challenges when doing code review." I see no value in code review. They add context swaps, delay and bottlenecks, damage your feedback loop, and don't usually find much of value to fix. 1/3

@allenholub I’m seeing value in code review when a code change was developed solo (this happens a minority of the time on my team), and when a team many time zones away needs to keep up with the changes.

@Badgersruleok 2. I was told, they would not bother the developers in any way, because the market is tough. Also, TDD only works when you have extensive specification. There were no units tests either of course.

QA interview: 1. Testers and not so technical and are paid less than developers 2. You can’t change developers mindset into test-driven development and shift-left 3. We only need Cypress tests to assure the quality and they are pretty simple Are these red flags or challenges?

My co-worker’s typo invented a new worthwhile thing: onbarding - when a new team member’s experience is so good they sing about it.

@aGirlCalledChar @swalchemist Ooo, I love this idea! If my company ever grows enough to have employees, I'll try this ... and probably quickly return to having no employees! 🤣

@mrksdck Short methods is fairly well correlated with testable code. I refuse to test long methods until I make them shorter.

@TheAnkurTyagi In my 50s now and still programming. I haven't really seen any ageism, though I predict that will happen in my 60s.
