GMC didn’t feel competent to set scope for PAs yet somehow thinks it is competent to decide who can CCT? This change will make NHS totally unsafe for patients. Is @wesstreeting ‘encouraging’GMC to make this change similarly to when GMC was ‘encouraged’ to agree to regulate PAs!

Again, public needs to understand this. These training places are how you get the specialists that patients require for clinics, operations and cancer care. They should not be anything to do with a scrap between unions and politicians - they're necessary.

These stats are frankly bonkers. If anybody is complaining about why they are waiting to see a GP. They need to ask why successive governments have not supported the same growth in GP numbers as it has hospital medic numbers ⁦⁦@wesstreeting⁩ fix it or fail

The facts are that a person without the necessary qualifications performed complex medical procedures and killed multiple people. Everyone involved knew they were not qualified. This goes way beyond negligence

Update: In the Commons earlier today, Wes Streeting said "those jobs will not materialise if the BMA rejects this deal" Says NHS trust bosses "were not convinced" about need for training posts due to concerns about the "conduct of resident doctors and the BMA"

NHS England executive Glen Burley said today that plans for 1k extra medical training places would "not be moving forward" This would be a significant development as training posts are meant to be filled from August - not mentioned by Wes Streeting in his statement earlier...

Maybe bcoz Sonographers are busy working as Dr Substitute Consultant Mammographer Reporting Radiographer PA ACP All Dr sub roles with no need for medical qualification &can practice medicine without any regulatory oversight for higher pay Meanwhile Drs unemployed Well done Wes

This is deliberately misleading. No junior doctor earns a 6-figure salary. On the other hand, Wes Streeting "earns" £160K a year and claims £270K in expenses. Does Streeting deserve to earn more than a brain surgeon who earns less than a cabinet minister's basic salary?

To anyone who still thinks the #NHS is a U.K. national treasure. Take it from many of us old school British trained Doctors and Nurses it’s certainly NOT. In fact what it has become imo is dangerous. Totally unrecognisable from when I trained. Patient safety gone. The term ‘nursing’ is disappearing to be replaced with ‘care’ and ‘carers’ 🤔😏😥 What I, as an old school nurse is observing & hearing from other’s is a TICK box ✅ industry and a grossly UNDERskilled and often UNDERqualified workforce attempting complex and life changing procedures. Basic nursing care appears to have vanished 😥 DO YOU KNOW WHO IS LOOKING AFTER YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONES IN NHS OR CARE SECTOR, what they’re trained in? Where they’ve trained! 🤔🤷‍♀️ Ask the question

Wes Streeting says he does not have the money to train, employ & pay actual doctors So why does Wes have a magic money tree to train, employ & pay a whole flock of non-doctors* who are trying (& failing) to attempt to practise medicine?

The suggested threat from @wesstreeting that additional speciality training posts for doctors could be withdrawn if doctors strike is extraordinary. Medical Consultants, Surgeons, GPs, anaesthetists, radiologists, and psychiatrists have to go through a speciality training post to finish their training. If you cut training posts, you are directly cutting the number of specialists the NHS will have in the future, that patients rely on. So what is being suggested here is essentially this: if doctors strike, the Government may reduce the number of future NHS specialists. That’s what the Health Secretary is suggesting. Doctors do not control how many training posts exist. The Government does. Workforce planning is a Government responsibility. The current bottlenecks, where tens of thousands of doctors apply for a limited number of training posts, were created by workforce planning decisions over many years. We already have a situation where tens of thousands of doctors apply for a limited number of training posts every year while the NHS says it has workforce shortages and patients face long waiting lists. The solution to that problem is obviously to train more specialists, not fewer. Using training posts as leverage in a dispute is not workforce planning. It is political pressure using the future NHS workforce as a bargaining chip. That should concern the public as much as it concerns doctors. Because fewer training posts today means fewer Consultants and GPs tomorrow. Fewer Consultants and GPs means longer waiting lists, overcrowded A&E departments, and worse access to care. Threatening to reduce training opportunities if doctors strike does not solve any of those problems. It just makes the workforce crisis worse. If 3.5% pay rise is more than inflation, why are the MP’s getting 5% pay rise this year?

It’s obviously the people (politicians) who want NHS to fail, but want to put the blame squarely on doctor’s heads.

🔴Dear public, Why would a NURSE be allowed to perform an endoscopy procedure (ERCP) + seriously harm/kill 68 patients in Rotherham NHS Trust @RotherhamNHS_FT 💀☠️ ⭕️ERCP is an invasive procedure strictly performed by consultant hepatobiliary surgeons. ⭕️The spineless doctors have also failed their patients by allowing this “self-confident” nurse consultant to even think about performing ERCPs. ⭕️She obfuscated her role and misled the patients. These are the repercussions of a flat hierarchy.

Would you care to tell the public why you're paying PAs, who've not studied medicine, are unregulated & underqualified, more than Drs? You can never be drawn on this. Is it because it's completely unacceptable? Member of the public supporting our Drs.
