On 21–22 May, Sweden will host the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Helsingborg. My visit to Sweden was marked by several important outcomes that will add new momentum to India-Sweden relations. From elevating our ties to a Strategic Partnership, launching the Joint Innovation Partnership 2.0 and the India-Sweden Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor, to setting an ambitious goal of doubling bilateral trade in the next five years, the discussions were highly productive. A day of mourning in Ukraine. Russia continues its massive attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilians. On Thursday, Russia killed 24 civilians in Kyiv in a single missile strike. My thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones. On the very same day, Russian drones struck two humanitarian aid convoys in Kherson including one from @OCHA_Ukraine. Nothing can justify attacks that target civilians and humanitarian workers. These are not the actions of a country that wants peace.

🇸🇪 is alarmed by credible reports that Russia systematically subjects Ukrainian children to militarization, indoctrination & other forms of repression. Today 41 @OSCE participating States invoked the #MoscowMechanism to investigate further. An expert report will be out in July.

“Ukrainian children belong with their families, not in Russia,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs @mariastenergard. Russia’s illegal deportation and forced displacement of children violates international law, including the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and international humanitarian law. On 11 May, Ms Malmer Stenergard will take part in a high-level meeting of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children in Brussels. Sweden is building security together with friends and Allies. Therefore, I am grateful that my German and Italian colleagues Johann Wadephul and Antonio Tajani have gathered a group of foreign ministers from likeminded countries in Wiesbaden to discuss some of the most important issues we have on our table in NATO and in the EU ahead of the upcoming foreign ministers' meetings in Helsingborg and Brussels. Today the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of Belarus to protest the decision of the Belarusian Supreme Court to label the Swedish International Liberal Centre (SILC) an ”extremist organisation”. This action against an EU-based foundation is an unacceptable attempt to stop support for democracy and human rights.

The first-ever EU-Armenia summit in Yerevan is a milestone in the deepening of our relations. Sweden will continue to support the Armenian people’s freedom to determine their own future. 🇸🇪🇦🇲

It was a pleasure to welcome the President of Lithuania, @GitanasNauseda, during his visit to Stockholm today, ahead of Lithuania’s upcoming Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers next year. The visit provided an opportunity to exchange views on the priorities and expectations of the forthcoming Presidency. Lithuania’s clear commitment to placing Ukraine at the top of the EU agenda will be vital in strengthening its European path. This focus is central to reinforcing stability and security across Europe. We also discussed how to further deepen our cooperation - as EU members, NATO Allies, and partners in the Baltic Sea Region. This will include efforts to counter hybrid threats, strengthening cooperation on defence industry and further enhancing our economic ties. A tightly integrated and determined Nordic Baltic cooperation is more important than ever. Sweden looks forward to further strengthening our close relations with Lithuania as we continue to deliver on shared priorities.

Hosting informal lunch meeting today on the #Arctic for the PSC, EEAS and the Commission. Arctic Ambassadors/Envoys from 🇸🇪, 🇫🇮 and 🇩🇰 shared their perspectives ahead of the upcoming 🇪🇺 Communication on the Arctic. Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has created new priorities and the need for reinforced security considerations in the region, while retaining strong focus on environment, climate and the indigenous peoples rights.

At #NPT marking 30 years of @CTBTO, we're reminded that multilateralism works, and that it's time to galvanize action. With determination and a touch of stubbornness, Sweden has worked since the 1970s for a world free of nuclear testing and urges all states to sign and ratify.
