@burnthelilacs @asscastle5000 I think it's that the couple of changes that androgenize post-puberty being very visible rather than the extent of changes overall. Largely voice and facial/body hair, whereas it's primarily breasts on tfem side. The majority of changes are pretty symmetrical, but much subtler

wasn't it last month that I was told by hundreds of people that going back to ovary-produced estrogen after being on T for a while was no big deal because the effects of T are basically irreversible

estrogen and testosterone are equally potent and the latter isnt a miracle bringer either, it doesnt solve all issues. people who started off estrogenized puberty have unchangeable features too, like wide hips etc. we really need to stop this rhetoric

You reach high epithelium concentrations because upper epithelium is a dead cells barrier that traps modecules; you need penetration enhancers for significant blood absorption. E.g. transdermal HRT uses alcohol

@drildevil @Parasitejestr @chewymoder In general yes, T->E2 conversion depends heavily on concentration (the DHT channel becomes saturated sooner) and some tissues have different E2/DHT route preference. Aromatization is not really relevant here though, it was just to compare TRT vs estradiol tablets serum effects

Aromatization should generally be the main E2 source with t-dominant system, so an ideal trans guy with 25 nmol/L stable T should have ~20 pg/mL systemic E2 just from conversion. In practice, I suspect the mean is higher for a few reasons

@drildevil @Parasitejestr @chewymoder This study found only 0.8 pg/dL increase vs placebo though, with the average 4.3 pg/dL E2 serum level post-treatment. This is extremely marginal, <4% of what you get on average from testosterone aromatization with a decent HRT regimen (and that's assuming perfect HPG suppression)

@nikicaga Tbf I'm in the EU and would also be finishing mine at 25 exactly if my parents didn't enroll me in school a year late. Alas, I shall be doing that at the decrepit age of 26

@nikicaga The post is trolling, obviously, but funnily enough the US is the one place where a PhD at 25 is technically possible because people can go from undergrad straight into a PhD program and yet some programs are still only 4 years (which is still insane to me)

@LilithLovett Realistically, for some people "how much dysphoria you have" is just how much you pass. Conversely, if you pass and especially if you're attractive, the same people will be much nicer to you and forgive any sort of insufficiently dysphoric transgression

Why.

@drildevil @Parasitejestr @chewymoder Reproductive care for trans men is already horrendous, HRT and surgeries are gatekept with unneeded exams, you get turned away at the doorstep, you get told to detransition over minor unrelated issues, you are most likely to be assaulted there. So most even skip cancer screenings

@drildevil @Parasitejestr @chewymoder On a serious note, atrophy is already extremely dysphoric and humiliating, and in most locations not a single doctor will help. This is a solution that is often OTC, mostly affordable and for most majorly helps near-immediately with zero noticeable side-effects

The Initial paper I linked shows lack of E2 increase with mass spectrometry, too. If you claim E1/E3 conversion, the burden of proof is on you, plus they are many times less feminizing

@swiftfootedTime @Parasitejestr @chewymoder It does probably raise systemic amounts just not in an amount thats detectable with immunoassays or purely in E2. Effectively doesn't mean actually, especially if the trans guy is on puberty blockers which make this clinically relevant.

@drildevil @Parasitejestr @chewymoder Localized therapy promotes glycogen, which restores Lactobacillus and fully lowers the pH back to normal. It also restores the urethra. This is just wrong. it's only temporary in a sense that it must be maintained, like all HRT
