@bloodstreamrunz "Men and women are at times born constitutionally and congenitally incapable of the after-growths; and individuals that are destitute even of the growth upon the pubes are constitutionally impotent."

@bloodstreamrunz the myth that ancients or non-westerners conflated all gender stuff together as third sex is wrong and pushed by a woman that cited the transsexual empire. aristotle e.g. made the distinction of hair of eunuchs cut before/after puberty and those born sterile (ἐκ γενετῆς)

eunuchs and feminine third-genders were much more common, well known and culturally influential than intersex people in the ancient world than intersex people but dare you think that the many depictions of those in ancient art were about us and they'll get very pissed at you

@bloodstreamrunz the greeks adopted phyrgian mythology. it's origin doesn't matter as long as it demonstrates greeks made distinction between eunuchs and hermaphrodites

@drildevil yes, they were inspired by natural phenomena, in Hermaphroditus case this means it was probably influenced by intersex people too. I never denied it and the myth of Attis was not even from the same culture, place or religion as Hermaphroditus originally lol. who is "they"?

@bloodstreamrunz yeah but its about the union of female and male energies, much like the hindu ardhanarishvara. meanwhile attis and agdistis are explictly about castration ala cult of galli

@drildevil the most common version of the myth is literally about a boy who becomes a hermaphrodite, not born as such

@bloodstreamrunz omens and myths are often inspired by natural phenomena. attis proves that they made a distinction between hermaphrodites and eunuchs.

@drildevil hermaphroditus was not based by anything or anyone specifically, it can and it probably is inspired by both the ancient world perceptions of eunuchs and intersex men, it's impossible, stupid and nonsensical to say it's based on one or the other only

@bloodstreamrunz uh yeah but this one is older and so it's totally possible hermaphroditus was based on intersex

@drildevil yes, I'm aware, this again changes nothing about my point. did you even read the thread? I literally posted a biblical example of intersex people's existence being acknowledged

@bloodstreamrunz Uhhh well people knew about intersex since like forever, I found multiple examples of babylonian omens that mentioned intersex like "If an androgyne is born, with both penis and vagina: omen of Kubaba who ruled the country. The country of the king shall be ruined."

@drildevil I am aware of all of this, this does not change anything of what I said about Hermaphroditus however, he was not a direct or conscious representation of intersex men

absence of queers in Sinners is simply the average black heterosexual imagination of black history. Despite that black trans and queer are all up & through Reconstruction and post-Reconstruction history onward. The first trans woman to testify before congress was a former slave

@bloodstreamrunz Important to note that Agdistis was castrated by the gods and turned into a pine.

@bloodstreamrunz Eunuchs had Attis, who you posted earlier, who was the offspring of the hermaphrodite Agdistis and river spirit Nana. All of these were associated with Cybele and the Magna Mater cult which originated from Phygia

@bloodstreamrunz The myth of Hermaphroditus is where we get the word from, but that doesn't mean we know what inspired it. It was likely an intersex condition like PAIS but the myth was to represent the enjoinment of man and woman in one.

applying our modern understanding of 'transexual' and 'intersex' to the past is anachronic and trying to decide if the depictions of eunuch, hermaphroditic bodies of the past are about intersex people or trans people is nonsensical, it's about neither and can be about both

Seeing “goyim” become normal and unironic netspeak lingo was insane to me in the first place but now I’m seeing people defend it as righteous appropriation, which I genuinely cannot believe I’m hearing. It’s /pol/ack talk, man.
