The Bank of Uganda has maintained the Central Bank Rate (CBR) at 9.75%. At its Monetary Policy Committee meeting held on 14 May 2026, the Bank assessed that the current monetary policy stance remains appropriate, even as global uncertainties, particularly the conflict in the Middle East, continue to pose risks to inflation and the broader economic outlook. Inflation remains below the medium-term target of 5%, although the outlook has been revised upwards, with core inflation projected to range between 5.0% and 5.3% over the next 12 months. The Bank also noted that Uganda’s economy remains on an upward trajectory, with growth projected at 6.5%–7.0% in FY2025/26, supported by activity across agriculture, industry, and services. Future monetary policy decisions will remain data-dependent and guided by the evolving outlook and balance of risks.

UPDATE: This morning at Kingdom Kampala House, the new Secretary General of the East African Community, Ambassador Stephen Patrick Mbundi of Tanzania, paid a courtesy call on the Chair Council of EAC Ministers, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga. Ambassador Mbundi, who formally assumed office on 25 April 2026, and Rt. Hon. Kadaga, who received her instruments as Chair Council of Ministers on 7 March 2026, held substantive discussions on the Customs Union Protocol and logistical challenges at the EAC Secretariat. The meeting emphasized the urgency of strengthening trade facilitation, addressing bottlenecks in cross‑border logistics, and ensuring that private sector participation remains central to the integration agenda. The courtesy call was symbolic, taking place soon after both leaders assumed their current offices, and underscored the importance of early collaboration in advancing the EAC’s 7th Development Strategy. They agreed to fast‑track reforms aimed at improving efficiency at the Secretariat. #SwiftUpdates

“Many of you are still aware that although we have already reached the middle-income status, we still have some challenges in certain areas that need improvement, and therefore, the coming parliament must focus on the message from his excellency, the president. We must fight corruption, we must fight corruption, we must ensure that we leap into the middle of the income status,” Dr Ruth Aceng said shortly after taking oath at Parliament as the Lira City Woman MP. #swiftupdates
