The other day @OkSwings posted something about this as well.
This is so true.
His argument was (basically) that the distance per second that the ball moves is drastically different.
I had not heard it explained that way before and I loved it. @BRrebellion

@45PedroMartinez 1-command
2-movement
3-velocity
THAT’S the order of importance to get outs and win games and also the order you should learn them but everyone thinks #3 is #1.

@TylerOsik @HittersUniv This barrel is being pushed and delivered IN FRONT of the back shoulder. Get more hand depth. Like the length of stroke drill out front though, we do something similar which really helps adjustability when fooled.

English

Hitters U PVC pipe drill. Each player requires a different feel & attack angle to find an elite bat path that works for them. Some need to feel down… some need to feel slightly up 💪🚀 @HittersUniv
English

@TylerOsik @HittersUniv Trout delivers the barrel from BEHIND the back shoulder. One reason is his hand depth.

English

@ZachSchumaker His turnover at the half you wouldn’t see at your local towns Pop Warner game. It doesn’t get any worse.
English

@awfulannouncing Kirk, and really the Jaguars, are what set the wide receiver market pricing through the roof. Google it
English

@TroyPSilva On his front side like crazy BUT…the very rare exception of a player who can do that but STILL can blur the barrel behind him. That deep blur is also called “barrel depth”.
English

@Hittingforpower Jordan, drop the back should more before it starts to turn (while head & spine angles do not move ) 👌
English

@coachzblair10 A good coach brings the other player up BEFORE anyone else does if the convo is about playing time.

Let’s work on firing your hands with a gap-to-gap approach!

@MLFootball Haha who he chose at the end is awesome
English

@RealCJ10 Abreu was a great hitter that was more talked about amongst the players when he played than fans.
English

Interesting comparison and a good one…..Abreu the better, scarier hitter…..and I’m partial to switch hitters. Bernie better on D although not a great arm. Abreu was the best hitter on those Phillies teams. 400 bags is a separator. Yank fans will say 4 rings will separate. 6-7!
Not Gaetti@notgaetti
I don’t know how to explain it, but if you ever watched baseball, Bernie is the more deserving HOF’er even if The Analytics says Abreu

@shegone03 @Teacherman1986 @CoachCahill Pause at 3:39. X marks the spot buddy. He calls it “dynamically balanced”

English

Pay attention @Teacherman1986 you might learn something about how the body works!

@TheSports_Shift This is a REAL test of who knows the NFL. There is only one. Most won’t even know him and bonus points is you remember his nickname and what he did to opponents helmets!

English

@GowagsKyle SO many hitters can’t keep this pitch fair. Even more hit coaches can’t explain how to keep it fair.
English

This ball is off the inside corner.
If you want to train high level movements, demand your athletes swing at this pitch in practice.
NO TAKES, NO FOUL BALLS!! 😉👊

@TewksHitting All barrels “turn”. The vital question for hitters is, does it turn quickly around a knob that serves as a fixed hinge point, or does that hinge point slide as the barrel turns and gets up to speed? One way is how you definitely want to do it and the other way is definitely not.
English

Nobody wants to touch this and I understand why.
Does the barrel turn? Does the entire bat rotate? Does the bat get pulled or pushed? Does it slide forward?
Good definitions create clarity. Bad definitions get dismissed.

Bobby Tewksbary@TewksHitting
Two questions for the hitting community: - What is the definition of "turn the barrel"? - Has there ever been a swing where the barrel doesn't turn?
English

@That_Hurts They’ve gotten away with about 39 false starts on the tush push so this is some karma
English

Anyone on #hittingtwitter have the video they used in the Arod vs. Alex documentary that was a view from his backside? He was in pinstripes so was def a home game @HyattCraig
English

@SangilloJohn One of the many things misunderstood and explained incorrectly in the world of hitting.
“Down” when shown with the hands to demonstrate bat path, which most do, is terrible.
“Down” when shown with the decompression of the lats on the backside, which noone does, is GOLD.
English

The idiots in hitting say teaching “down” is wrong. Bullshit.
We teach overhand throws first for a reason shoulders control the path. Same in hitting. The bottom forearm works with the shoulders. The hands just follow.
•Hit down → top 1/3 of the ball. Teaches hand path, barrel direction, and control.
•Hit level → middle 2/3. Butt back, stay connected, drive through for backspin.
•Hit up → bottom 1/3. Let the back knee turn deeper and steeper to pull the body into tilt and create natural lift.
At the elite level of softball, it’s a rise-ball/drop-ball league. If we don’t teach these kids how the body controls vertical height, we’re failing them.
To hit the rise, the bottom forearm and shoulders must learn to get out front the high ball is hit 3–5 inches further out, the true forward feel of the swing.
To hit the drop, the back knee pulls the lat to turn the hands into tilt the lower the pitch, the deeper the knee, the steeper the rear shin angle, the greater the elevation.
There’s no such thing as a “hip slip.” No need to talk “tilt” or “barrel depth.”
Just teach what the body and shoulders must do:
First go down, then hinge to stay level, then drive the back knee down to create up.
Down teaches direction. Level builds control. Up creates lift.
Shoulders set the barrel. Down first, then up.
Tuesday night with this group of young ladies was all about building from the ground up learning how to move proximal to distal, how to carry energy through their throws and swings, and understanding how the body naturally works through the down and up. We also dove deep into the mental side of hitting, focusing on developing strong routines and confident approaches at the plate. Loving the growth and determination I’m seeing!
