Labour has passed into law the biggest upgrade to workers’ rights this century, rights that now protect millions of people from unfair employment practices. Reform have promised to chuck it all in the bin. They are not on the side of workers. Cast your vote appropriately in May.

Trump, 16/3: “I will be having the honor of taking Cuba. Whether I free it, take it. I think I can do anything I want with it, if you want to know the truth.” 82 MPs have backed my motion condemning US sanctions. This is another sick episode of gangsterism that we must denounce.

The type of company Mandelson keeps was well known and he was still appointed. Worse, I think he was appointed precisely because of the circles he moved in and to ingratiate a warmonger.

Today at Business Qs I asked the Leader of the House for an update on when the Hillsborough Law will return to the Commons. Unfortunately he was unable to give me a firm date, although I was offered a meeting with ministers. #JFT97 #HillsboroughLawNow

Many constituents have written to me asking for my view on the US/Israeli strikes on Iran and the conflict now engulfing the region. I have prepared a full response, which you can read on my website by following this link: stevewitherden.wales/2026/03/04/ira…

I was elected on a pledge to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, it was right at the top of all my election literature. The Labour Party, too, fought a cost-of-living election in 2024. If the government is as serious about tackling it as I am, it needs more ambitious policies.

Lindsay Hoyle did exactly the right thing.Once he’d picked up any information on Mandelson possibly leaving the country, of course he had to tell the police. Imagine the uproar if he hadn’t & Mandelson had run. The Met has let him down by releasing this. theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/f…

The Chancellor will deliver her Spring Statement next week. She has said tackling the cost-of-living crisis is her priority. If so, we need policies with the ambition to match the scale of the challenges facing families across the country.

Reform have just made a huge mistake ahead of Senedd elections in May. Their local government pension plans mean: - scrapping the pensions of 1 in 9 Welsh workers - abolishing the largest pension fund in Welsh history, crucial to investment across Wales bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

A straightforwardly barbaric proposal from Reform UK. The Equality Act brings all equalities legislation passed since the 1970s under one law - on equal pay, race relations, gender discrimination, disability discrimination, more - they would gleefully throw it all in the bin.

Last Friday, I sent a letter to the Prime Minister calling on him to commit to implementing the Hillsborough Law in full, without carve-outs and without further delay, as a crucial first step in delivering the much-needed change in culture he is promising. #HillsboroughLawNow #JFT97

Factionalism at the top of the Labour Party has led to appalling decisions - from the winter fuel mess to Mandelson's appointment. Sidelining members and trade union voices weakens our Party. 🌹My @LabourList piece on the call to Restore Labour Democracy labourlist.org/2026/02/factio…

Political parties are the link between people and power. Anyone can join one, so anyone can have their say. Labour MPs, trade unions, and members groups are calling to restore that link with the working-class communities Labour was founded to represent: tinyurl.com/RestoreLabourD…

I have been campaigning for the reopening of Carno Station in my constituency for a year now. My amendment to the Railways Bill will give MPs a tool to push for more services in their own constituencies, through a department tasked with restoring provision to underserved areas.
We Own It@We_OwnIt

We were in parliament today to ask MPs to back @switherdenMP’s amendment to the Railways Bill, to enable your community to campaign to reopen local stations cuts in the 1960s. Here is why his amendment is so important. #RailwaysBill

Mandelson’s avarice, his American business connections, and his malign influence within the Labour Party are simultaneously why he was made Ambassador and why he was useful to Epstein. It is the same story. Read my full statement on the Mandelson Scandal: stevewitherden.wales/2026/02/05/ste…

I have said it before: considerably extending the period to be able to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain will, of course, worsen staff shortages in the health and care sectors.

The government mustn’t renege on its arms export control criteria now Gaza is away from the front pages. Alongside 57 other Parliamentarians, I wrote to the Secretary of State for Business and Trade expressing concern about any unblocking of arms licences to Israel.
