#PT582 #KR Treating the elderly can be very tricky in the way of finding a work out that is safe and effective. From what I have heard from clinicians before, even though they may not be squatting 100 lbs, you can still make them sweat while they stay laying safely in bed.

#PT582 #KG You should definitely treat them differently solely because one has significantly more inflammation. Even if the exercises are similar between the two, with tendinitis there is a focus of decreasing the inflammation, while tendinosis there doesn't have to be.

#PT582 #AK Mirror therapy could be used for anybody who has an involved limb and if focusing on regaining function. The reason it is so affective with pain is because i's tricking the mind that is making up the pain to begin with. It is very beneficial for that reason alone.

#PT582 #KB I would not prescribe pt's who have had TKAs plyometric exercises. I feel like the surgeons have the right idea that it couldn't be good for the artificial knee. Now, before the TKA is different, and I would consider doing it then to strengthen them for a little prehab

@addybAZ I would imagine for a flexed position, you could use a bike that had a back and prop a pillow to get them more flexed. Extension you could possibly lean that seat back, back to get them in to that position? That one to me is trickier to think of!

@t_fitzgerald74 I think that is a really good idea to try to work an existing machine to fit them if possible. What would you use to help put this patient into a more flexed or extended position for comfort?

#PT582 #AB I feel the patients that can't run/bike to get to fatigue before the appointment, may be the ones that get easily fatigued with any exercise. If needed we can show them positions on a bike to put them in a more flexed/extended position for comfort, and see if it helps.

@KSandifer_SPT I honestly didnt find much, so I went a different route. But I think foods that provide more energy are probably the best bet! #KS

@t_fitzgerald74 Interesting! Do they recommend special diets for people with MS? Aside from a well balanced diet? I do not think I have heard about avoiding certain foods to prevent exacerbations before but if its true, it might be beneficial to know which foods our patients should avoid.

#PT582 #KS I thought about doing a PICO on diet and MS symptoms. My patient said he didn't want to deprive himself of what he ate which was interesting. I think we should be aware of their diet and refer to nutritionist if needed, however I don't think it should be in our scope.

#PT582 #AP I think one of the biggest benefits of aquatic therapy is that you can move more freely since you aren't bearing as much weight on you injury. I think aquatic can really help push an athlete in to practicing the right movements before doing it over ground.

#PT582 #TO I think group therapy can be incredibly beneficial for patients who are especially going through difficult times. The link attached talks about groups and how they allow individuals to network, share ideas with coping, and feel empowered. bit.ly/2q9ft5h

#PT582 #KT I think when we have these patients, those breathing techniques may take the whole session because they may have to take the whole session. Especially if it is an initial treatment session, and they have severe chronic pain, this may be our best and only option.

#PT582 #RJ We should definitely be collaborating with other professionals for chronic pain individuals. As we know, the pain is being perceived when it really isn't there. Psychiatrists, nutritionists, and even individuals who specialize in spirituality is a great place to start.

@Bri_RedaSPT I mean, it might be. Just from what I did on Wednesday taping my shoulders back, I felt the correction but I found it uncomfortable and it also was rough to take off. Gave me a little irritation rash too. But maybe for smaller surfaces (like the knee) it wouldn't happen as much!

@t_fitzgerald74 Taylor, that is definitely true! We learned that would be the most beneficial for each. Do you think the hype around K tape is more than it deserves? #pt582

#PT582 #BR I think both these tapes can be beneficial depending on your patient and what you are taping for. In my opinion, M-tape could be used for more stability purposes while K-tape may be used for re-correctional purposes.

#PT582 #TL I would find myself somewhat in between these two points. I believe that trainers/PTs should'nt tape or use ankle braces on athletes who have not injured their ankles before. If they do, it hinders their body's ability to naturally keep up with the outside stresses.

#PT582 #MS I personally think a patient likes the US treatment, and won't be steered away, then we should try our best to increase their treatment time to perform treatments we feel would be more beneficial. It may be harder for us but sometimes it's more about patient support.

#PT582 #ES I think a large problem for people who are inactive, is finding something that they are interested in to begin with. I feel as PTs we can use our knowledge of different exercises to find a program that works for them.

@t_fitzgerald74 @NAUPT582 I think mobs are just one of your treatment options. Self stretching should also be implemented. Also, identifying and addressing other impairments such as a muscular weakness will help create long term changes (ie postural muscles).

@NAUPT582 Jt mobilization is effective to increase range via interruption of intermolecular cross-links of collagen filaments. Stress -> collagen remodeling = greater ROM. Mobs Important for patients with adhesive capsulitis, especially posterior glide. #PT582 #TF

@SavannahG_SPT I think that and along the lines of treating them with mobs to get there pain down so they are able to continue with greater, and possibly more beneficial treatments for long term relief.

@t_fitzgerald74 One way I was thinking to help educate pts to help them further is to come up with different ways they can do joint mobs at home to help keep the effects of the this modality going if they had a good reaction or had pain relief in the clinic. I hope this is what you were asking!

#PT582 #TF In pts with chronic LBP it was found that manual therapy using joint mob techniques were effective in decreasing the pts pain as well as increases in disc height. Low back pain is a common condition seen in PT and these mobs can be effective Rx bit.ly/2HMwF6k
