@DevLeaderCa For work we have implemented a customer Exception middleware that logs all errors to a MySQL db, it also logs the payloads for all non 200-299 cases. For app monitoring we use newrelic.

@tahaonfire You can check the article for details, but high-level idea was to reduce the number of redundant calls to an external API

I spent 2 days optimizing an API endpoint to make it 15X faster. Here's a breakdown of what I did. I worked on an e-commerce application. One endpoint was crunching some heavy numbers. It was very slow. The endpoint was responsible for calculating a report and needed data from a few services to perform the calculations. Here's a high-level overview of what I did: - Identify the bottlenecks - Fix the database queries - Fix the external API calls - Add caching as a final resort I wrote an in-depth article about the complete optimization process. If you would like to learn more, you can read it here: milanjovanovic.tech/blog/how-i-opt…

@_PatrickGod Using Stored Procedures for all SQL operations, there seems to be a distrust for EF in the minds of veterans in my company. I wonder why that is ?

Calling all .NET craftsmen! What's your toolkit for data querying? I've been faithful to Entity Framework, yet I'm intrigued to discover alternate routes. What gems have you stumbled upon?

I worked on a system handling millions of requests per day. It was a monolith application scaled out to 10+ API instances. Everything was running with one large SQL Server database. Working on this system redefined what it means to be "scalable". So, I want to share my experience with you today. Horizontal scalability is crucial for systems that handle high loads. Here are a few characteristics of a horizontally scalable API: - Stateless sessions - Load balancing - Fault tolerance - Caching All right, that all sounds nice. But what does it mean? 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 A horizontally scalable API should be stateless. It doesn't store any session data on the server side. Instead, the client maintains the state of the application. 𝗟𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 Load balancing distributes requests across different API instances. This reduces the overall load on a single instance. Which helps to improve API performance. 𝗙𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 Fault tolerance means the API can handle failures gracefully. This includes: - Handling errors - Retrying failed requests - Maintaining high availability 𝗖𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 Use caching to improve performance and reduce the database load. The important thing is to use a distributed cache (like Redis). Otherwise, caching won't help when scaling out APIs. These are just a few characteristics that make an API horizontally scalable. P.S. If you enjoyed this, you will love The .NET weekly newsletter. More than 32,000+ engineers already read it.
