“The field of fact-checking today faces growing and diverse challenges, most notably the loss of funding sources and shifting policies of major tech companies, in addition to smear campaigns portraying it as a tool to restrict freedom of expression. In light of this reality, it has become essential for fact-checking organizations to rethink their operational models by diversifying income sources, innovating new services, exploring sustainable partnerships, and adapting to rapid changes”
ARIJ's Director General Rawan Damen, opened AFCN's second regional meeting for 2025, which focused on a central theme: “Sustainability of Fact-Checking Institutions and Initiatives.”
The meeting brought together 50 fact-checkers from over 26 initiatives and organizations within the network, representing 12 Arab countries 🌍.
The meeting addressed three main themes:
🛡️ Sustainability challenges in the fact-checking field and resilience strategies
🔍Professional dilemmas related to the concept of the "fact-checker" and the professional adaptations required
📢 Strategies to expand audience reach and maximize impact
Participants engaged in in-depth discussions around each theme, exchanging practical solutions and recommendations that will be further developed and implemented in the upcoming period 🔎
