The last dark skinned black female character in the show had martial r*pe jokes made at her expense. It was honestly disgusting.

I wouldn't call it an obsession as much as I would call it a direct response to the media's obsession with masculinizing and dampening BW beauty in movies and TV. The writers and execs are obsessed with disallowing BW our femininity.

There’s an obsession with femininity when it comes to black female characters. In order to feel represented the character has to be the epitome of femininity. It’s like people forget that these characters are more than just love interests and should be looked at as strong characters.

For starters, she’s playing a character who is a man in the books. And she’s shown wearing colors that are coded not masculine than the light, colorful pastels that other unmarried women are seen in on the show. And has been shown in menswear inspired clothing on the show as well. It isn’t the imaginations of viewers coding this woman as masculine. Acknowledging the actress is beautiful, which she is, doesn’t change what the show is putting down with the choices they’ve made with the only dark skinned Black woman on the entire show playing a gender bend of a masculine, rakish, man.

Finally, it got to a point where I was told by HBO that I should submit all my notes to them and they would give Ryan our combined notes” GRRM later did a call with HBO and Condal where the plan for S3 was discussed, and he allegedly said, ‘This is not my story any longer’ HBO then asked GRRM to step back from HOTD after the call, and a few months later he was brought back aboard the project — ‘I can’t talk about it’ (via @THR)
